F@H Web Client Dark Skin with PPD comparison by GPU / WU

Go to solution Solved by LAR_Systems,

HI everyone,  Quick update.

There was some server updates today to deal with server resource issues so sorry if you  were impacted by some strangeness like WU averages etc. being a little strange while this occurred.

In addition to the cleanup you will now find that for GPU projects the Atoms and Cause is reported on the slots.

Atoms and Cause coming to CPU slots soon.

image.png.96a2a24471ee3392c37e18b8310adc99.png

The PPD indicator has been updated so there is a +/- 10% tolerance for the red or green indicators coming on for when you GPU slot is operating within this "Average" range making it a more useful indication as to when PPD is out of the ordinary.

Project pages on the database site have been updated to show the Atoms, Core and project branch status of projects.

image.png.d3fcd4c830ec61537d13dc93b7450eae.png

And CPU based project pages (link found in the CPU slots in the web client) now contain the BETA charts for PPD-PLC (PPD per logical processor) as that system builds data and is under review.

These client based updates will trickle in to the wild over the next couple hours and take effect with a refresh of the page when they do.

Question for you, when you click on help you get this menu, I was wondering... could you put the LTT forum in there too? I understand if not, just think it would be cool to be able to try to poach as many folder help as many people get folding as we can.

While with the current implementation of the extension in chrome that would be possible,  I'm reluctant to mod some of the more base F@H menus and functionality as it makes my build more and more different from theirs which they may not be thrilled about.

I am however working on the Firefox version and trying to find some common ground in terms of features and approaches to the mods that work for both browsers implementation.  End goal that aligns with what you're looking for is to additional resources while not modifying F@Hs base features.

Thoughts there are adding a new folder setup wizard that makes sure that you enter a name, get a key, enter it, join a team (defaulting to LTT, but they can enter other stuff) know how and where to check stats, and what is / how to setup folding resources that would link out to LTT videos and the forum... which cards to buy right now and why linking out to the PPD DB.   In addition to all that mod in a notification window that can announce when we got an event etc.  Cause I have seen plenty of posts "I fold for LTT but missed the event sign up"

So not right now... but soonish something better!? ;)

@LAR_Systems out of curiosity are you planning on enabling CPU compairisons as well? i know that will be more difficult though or maybee impossible due to some people using all cores some breaking it to multiple ways etc...just curious...may not be possible now that i think about it...unless you devide it and do a Per core in use basis...etc.

I'm investigating that.   In chrome there are some APIs open to extensions to get the real CPU make / model as F@H client only identifies it as "CPU" and then I can get the max threads and figure out how many F@H is using.

The unknown that needs lots of testing is if there is an accurate way to get a per thread PPD score that can be recorded as some people use all threads (default max threads minus one for system overhead), some, one etc.  so it's not as easy to just say model and PPD like with GPUs.

Only want to track it and provide it to you guys if it provides a real performance insight, hopefully I will know one way or the other sooner than later.

Yeah I was playing with that during the last event, you need monster cooling and in the end really need to make a choice if you're also folding with dedicated GPUs on the system.

@LAR_Systems a couple of quick questions.

Do you perfer us to keep the Web Control page open in "no sleep mode" all the time or just every now and then ? I personally don't mind keeping and window open 24/7 (which I have been doing) if that is helpful.

Would it be possible to display the number of samples in the GPU PPD DB for each card and the number of samples for each project for the individual cards ? I think that would be useful information as the PPD data is more relevant when you know the sample size.

Hmm did we break it?

Since I have been folding nothing but p 14201 the last 48 hours, I wanted to see some stats, and got this page.

I will look in to the logs, it's running now and I did not notice an outage, but that does not mean there was not one.

The choice is really up to you, but yes it's better for the DB cause we get more samples if you leave it running.   I'm working on a scaling backend to the API so I can slow down the number of WU the clients submit even in no sleep if the server is burdened and that will come in a later update.

As for the stats, been waiting to get a critical mass of work units in the DB for a variety of cards to add addition features like you're describing.  The DB is only about 2 weeks old and is growing pretty quickly... so soon I should be able to provide scientifically relevant data based on the samples collected beyond the average.  I'm hoping the upcoming event sees a bump in use and data variety.

This would include the number of WU samples for the GPU / Project and recently added if the core OS is Linux or Windows as their performance varies based on OS overhead.

Also working on the addition of percentile scores for your performance compared to the DB samples as of course some cards in the same model will vary greatly based on a number of hardware and software factors so showing where your card slots in to the spectrum of that model of card is useful information as well.

Does not matter if there are silicon lottery GPUs that bring the max PPD score of a card up... if 80% of users will never come close to it... etc.

An idea, can you maybe hijack the spinny wheel on the page and make it static instead? That thing wastes about 2% GPU when it's visible in Chrome on a 2080S :P

Did have the idea to have a spinning Linus head at one point, but if our FPS is like everything Linus touches... it would drop hard. ;)
