A Wake-Up Call for Microsoft - Surface Book 3

AlexTheGreatish

The Surface Book was a revolution for Windows laptops, but not much has changed for the Surface Book 3. Are the bones good enough to keep it relevant?

Hold on, what the hell is USB 3.12? (2:01)

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

About the bezels on the Surface Book or other Surface devices.  The thing about those is they are a really good place to hold your tablet.  Having a bezel that is about the size of a finger and a thumb is the simplest solution for being able to pick it up.   I also use a Samsung Note  phone which has basically no bezel on the edges.  While they have software that is good at ignoring errant touches.... why waste processor cycles on that?

Cold boot attack.  Yeah I'm sure a scientist working at Los Alamos or something like that ... and who has to be sure Iran or China don't steal their secrets are the only ones who have to worry about that.

Being able to flip the screen around or just take it off makes it god tier student machine. I used it for about a year when I was doing EE and being able to have one machine do both heavy note taking on that huge display that is roughly the same size as a normal sheet of notebook paper while also having the extra grunt to do some gaming is unparalleled.

Linus: Really does look good, doesn't it?

Also Linus with equally as good camera in a phone: This phones camera sucks

Granted all selfie side cameras do suck, they need to die.

I wonder what's better this or a Zephyrus G14 and a Surface Pro 6?

It isn't just being able to upgrade the device with serviceability, it's maintaining it. Very hard to clean the dust out and can't change thermal paste.

why do so many reviewers complain about bezels on tablets? it's like they don't understand that tablets get held.

Probably because a technical solution (eg palm rejection) can make it so no bezel is necessary. Admittedly, you need a 1cm bezel for a tablet primarily because that input-rejection tech is likely draining the battery and people hang on to things by the edges. If it was not a touch screen, then the bezel can be made about 2mm wide, but many monitors that are "bezelless" actually have like 10-pixel wide dead zones around them, so you may as well cover the dead zone with the bezel if you can't make it edge-to-edge.

Hi Alex, I own a MS SB2 15". It has been replaced multiple times for Image ghosting on screen. If something static is displayed on screen for sometime (say 10 -15 mins), it looks like it gets stuck to the display (something like a temporary screen burn in). MS Support replaced the whole device. My 3rd replacement is under process (Which is out of warranty, but MS made an exception as I had my previous devices replaced for the exact same issue). This is the only solution they offer. But I think this is a display panel issue and even if MS replaces it, this issue might will pop up again on the replaced device eventually. It is a bummer, considering this is a premium product.

I do consider upgrading to a SB3, But I'd like to know whether they changed the panel for the SB3 or are they still using the ones used in SB2?

refer here for more details on the issue https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfbook2-surfdrivers/surface-book-2-15-screen-burn-in-transient-image/899c9e62-ed40-45da-90b9-6ce3286e2e02
