Motherboard Help

I'm looking to make a pc using a Ryzen 7 3800x but I want a motherboard that can later, if I need it, be converted into a GPU mining rig. Which motherboard could provide enough ports compatible with the Ryzen 7 3800x? (I prefer ATX form)

How many gpus do you want?

Gpu mining seems to have pretty much died.

Do you have a budget?

Do you want to use risers?

1. I want to be able to use up to 4 GPUs

2. I do not have a budget for the motherboard

3. Yes I would be ok with using risers.

Lots of gpus meet those needs, but something like this is a common pick https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jcYQzy/msi-b450-tomahawk-max-atx-am4-motherboard-b450-tomahawk-max

Yea, all the slots will work, but only the top one comes from the cpu, the others are driven from the chipset.

  • Ps. the high watt psu is incase i do mining

Id probalby get a nvme drive, slightly faster, about the same price, so might as well.

Do you plan to oc your cpu? Id personally get a cheaper cooler, and just get the 3900x

Do you want to oc? Stock cooler may be ok but a bit louder, hyper 212 is a resaonble budget option, noctua nh u12s is a bit more of a premium. Of go all out and get a nh d15 or dark rock pro 4.

No I am not thinking of overclocking. Is there a decent priced water cooler?

If your not going to overclock, no point in a watercooling, the extra cooling won't help.

If overclocking isn't very hard for beginners, I am thinking I might try it in the future. What is the best not-so-expensive watercooler?

Id stay away from a water cooler, and get a high end air cooler instead, something like a nh d15 or a dark rock pro 4

What are you using the system for? You probably won't notice a big differnce between them.

How much do you want to spend for higher performance? Id probably go 3900x unless you really want that small improvement.
