Telstra is the biggest ISP in Australia and has a monopoly in most places over the copper ADSL lines and refuse to upgrade them. Even if you were to go with another ISP, they still buy the service from Telstra and resell it, and still uses the Telstra hardware and wlines. Telstra customers get priority over any other "piggybacked" ISP's customers, so if you want any kind of constancy and stability of your connection you basically have to go with Telstra

'Australia' and 'fastest internet speed ever'?? Never ever would I have thought those 2 words would appear in a sentence together! Wowee! :D

When do you expect NBN to be available in your area? That should open up access to other ISPs.

Fastest network transmission speed would be more accurate...It's not really "Internet", it seems to be dark fibre.

I think we all know, even those of us that don't live in AUS, what a f***k up NBN is thanks to Telstra, Rudd & Murdoch.

Meanwhile, you're welcome to jump across the ditch where we have 4Gbps/4Gbps if you want some real internet ;)

Optus runs it's mobile networking separate from Telstra, as does Vodaphone.
When it comes to NBN everyone gets the same, it all comes from NBNco, has nothing to do with Telstra.

I don't mean to get political but the plan was FTTH until the Liberal party decided that would be too expensive and instead decided to spend 10x the money on FTTN

I’ve got a connection similar to this, have you tried Zoom or a big group call on this connection? Curious.

Before NBN most of Australia still had Cable and both Telstra and Optus had their own networks.
Feel bad for anyone that had to use ADSL over Cable though, I was getting 20mbps down on cable while those I knew with ADSL couldn't get 2.

ADSL

Honestly that should've banned a long time ago to get ISP's off their butt..... Along with asymmetric connections, this day and age 15 mbps is way less than satisfactory..

Aus is far to large a land area for that, for those it's ADSL or nothing. The line exists as it is so they can have a phone so putting ADSL across it costs very little, VDSL2 isn't really an upgrade because the distance is past the high speed vectoring so you get the exact same speed as ADSL.

NBN will get round to these people but for many it's a long way off.
