Boss wants 4 active screens

Hi everyone, long time fan of the forum- first time writing.

 

I started working at an awesome new job a few months ago, and my limited tech knowledge made me the go-to tech guy. 

 

My boss wants 4 active screens controlled by one PC. 
What would be required? What specs would i need the PC to be? Any pitfalls I should be aware of?

NVIDIA graphics support up to 4 displays simultaneously, AMD cards support up to 6. Just make sure you plan out your connections in terms of what ports the graphics card has and what ports the monitors have.

What Nvidia Graphics? 
The company goes far and beyond for being environmentally aware, so if I buy anything they prefer it is used. 

Would one large 4K screen be a better bet?

That's up to the user to try/say.

 

I prefer a huge 4K monitor (currently 49" TV) than multiple small ones, but he might not be the same.

To me that sounds like way more screen real estate then ever needed or worth the space taken up. He would probably be good with 4x  21” 1080p monitors (Very easy to get pre-owned) in a 2x2 grid. Any semi modern graphics card should be able to handle that with no problems unless he is running an intensive workload.

Well the thing is we want something large and a little 'over-the-top'.
He wants large screen real-estate. 
If we're not going for the 4x 42 inc, then we'd do something like 1x 70 inch

How far away from the monitors is he? You’d have to be really far away to even be able to see all of the screen at once and not strain your eyes.

70 inch is impractical unless you build a custom desk where the bottom of the monitor is below the desk,otherwise you have to look up which isn't comfortable. 55 or so is the max practical size I'd say (source:had a 65in one for a while). 

With 49 I already had to carefully select the model so that I could modify the stand to have the bottom almost touching the desk.

The screens would be used for recreational stuff, like video games or the such. 
Most of the time they would just show stuff like sales-numbers and new MRR numbers.

4 Samsung or LG 43" LCD TVs , 4k 60hz running VIA HDMI.

Get a GPU that has 3 HDMi + DP . and use a DP to HDMI adapter.

Which GPU specifically will depend on budget and desired performance. For 4k 60hz i'd suggest at least a 5700XT or RTX 2070  for gaming. For normal work related browsing it can be anything basically.

 

If viewing angles are going to be important due to the setup, consider getting a LG IPS TV (most tvs are VA so have poor viewing angles), u will loose contrast and black level performance but gain viewing angles.
