The video seems really choppy for some reason.

Also pretty cool that they include a calibrator with the display.

Yeah something is wrong with the frame rate on the Linus shots. Seems like it's around 18-24FPS.

Any chance of getting a link to that list of HDR mastering info for feature films that you flash on the screen at 6:13?

The video overall is significantly brighter than normal videos and several bright spots are washed out on SDR (Linus's hair). I hope that's not normal, otherwise it'll be just like the aspect ratio where it's a small improvement for a minority of users at the detriment of everybody else.

Oh so your going to "review" the 48" CX then.

I hope you do an admirable job, I know rtings.com is releasing there CX series, dunno if its 55" or 48", review on Wednesday.

Will be interesting to see your take on it.

I myself will be purchasing one, not right away mind you, reviews (proper reviews) matter, and to be honesty im not to keen on the price....and lets face it, 4k 120hz wont be available till the new GPU's release anyway with HDMI 2.1 so ..no rush.

I do have a question though.

Will you ever be moving towards a more detailed Display test bench ? Similar to other reviewers like rtings ? For example 30 point response time tests

I just signed up to say while this HDR video looked kind of interesting (really saturated) on my HDR enabled phone, it looked absolutely terrible on my non-HDR 1080p LG TV.

It looked like a flashbang was continually going off or some kind of JJ Abrams lens flare fever dream or something. Really hope that's the last one for a while. Could barely make out Linus in the video. Just all super bright yellow and orange.

That was the same screen when they were using during the MBP upgrade. IMO the Pro Display in the background looked a lot better.

Technically my phone, Xiaomi mi 8, has a OLED panel that support HDR (I guess the most basic form of it?), But actually the image quality is so much worse.

Highlights are all blown out, colors are hyper mega saturated like someone went all out on the saturation slider.

Forcing it to 1080p from the now standard 480p makes it better, but not super duper better.

Edit to add: I really hope this is a one off. Or that you're still learning how to do it. Or that you upload both an HDR and normal video, because the HDR looks a lot worse. If this is the new Linus Standard, then it is a massive downgrade in quality, maybe unless each one of use buy one of those.

I would expect it to be hard to get for a while, they will not have the volume (or budget) to pre-order a massive run of them like apple have been able to do with the Pro Display XDR.

it likely comes down to YouTube doing a very poor conversion of it.

thats the thing I looked weeks ago and it was out of stock. they've been out for a few months but there seem to be 0 available.

(I'm not interesting in buying just a pain to recommend )

Huh. Here's to hoping that Asus continues this process. Their ROG Strix XG49VQ ( https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-Strix-XG49VQ/ ) has 12bpc 4:2:2 YCbCr support and is sub $1000, though it only does 400 nits (which I actually prefer!)

Good job, Asus, you're helping push some of the cost down of good HDR content.

I don’t know if anyone else feels this way but the anti-Apple sentiment in this video is as annoying as the people on the other extreme who drool over everything Apple.

Yes the Pro Display XDR can cost an extra $1000 for the nano-textured glass but it’s an optional feature that Asus doesn’t even offer; who else offers an anti-glare option that doesn’t mess up color accuracy?! Also the Pro Display XDR is 6k whereas ASUS PA32UCX is a 4K screen. While the resolution difference is mentioned in the video, you can’t give Asus a point for being cheaper when their display is objectively inferior in terms of resolution. And the ASUS PA32UCX is a chunky boi, doesn’t build quality matter anymore?

Made LTT account just to post in here. I just got my Predator X27 and am overall really loving HDR. I wish more content creators would upload HDR content to YouTube, though I realize it's still a niche minority.

Is there any reason why a Predator X27 or PG27UQ couldn't be used for HDR content mastering? I understand the Pro Display XDR has more content creation features, but the X27 for example is factory calibrated and is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified. Wouldn't that more than get the job done where you don't want to drop 4Gs?

I have a 27" 4K HDR1000 display since a couple of days only so I am not yet super familiar with HDR content.

While the contrast and the color this video looked great and better (less dull) than the SDR version, the video was way too bright for me, to the point that when comparing it with the SDR version I was actually losing details (a great example is the eye shot at 5:20).

I don't know if this was intentional (to emphasize the fact that with HDR you can get super bright whites) or if it's a problem with my monitor (should not since it was calibrated with the X-Rite tool as well) or with the browser (Edge)

I took a picture to show the what I mean. Of course there are all the limitations involved in taking a picture of a screen but it should show the difference.

Look at David's right arm for example.

769330445_HDR_(1of1).thumb.jpg.7662ead46cf62df4d58aea6ea69ada32.jpg

Aside from that, congratulations for this upgrade, once again you are adding great production value.

Will all content be in HDR from now on?

I hope we can perhaps get a video (maybe with Brandon?) to see what does it change in terms of workflow and workload.

I know with RED should not be a big hassle since they have HDRX but maybe if there are difference with the lighting and (definitely?) more stuff to do in postproduction.

No visible stutter here. Just plain bad image quality.

I'd imagine the amount of people watching these in HDR 10+ certified displays and such to be single digit percentage. It can look better for a minority of people while looking worse for the majority.
