Im planning on building a pc and wanting to know whether it is worth changing the 3600 to a 3700x.

Im not plannign to build till prices go down, so should I just wait for the next generation?

im currently going for a 3600 with an after market heatsink over the 3700x... depends on ur use case and if you need the extra cores, you dont if its just for gaming paired with a mid-high end GPU

If you have the budget, you can opt for 3700X. It has 8 cores and 16 threads, suitable for multi-threaded jobs such as encoding video or compressing data and rendering jobs if you are into that. Ryzen 5 3600 is still good if you don't have a high budget. Even though it has 6 cores and 12 threads, it is still much capable for multi-tasking and has good multi-threaded performance (around 75% compare to 3700X).

So, any specific workload you are going to perform with your new CPU?
