Monitor upgrade

MADCATZ

Hi

At the moment i have a Acer 24 inch 5ms monitor, and i want to ether get a 29 inch monitor or a other 24 inch monitor and use the one i have at the moment to have skype ect on while gaming. Which would be the best option, here are links to both of them.

The 24 inch: http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=14747

The 29 inch: http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=MONAS62751&name=ASUS-MX299Q-29-Wide-AH-IPS-LED-2560x1080-21:9-8000

It will be used mostly for gaming, thanks for you help :)

btw the Asus ve247h you linked is a piece of junk. The low end Asus monitors (even the IPS ones), are total junk. I've seen them in person, and believe me you don't want to go there.

Oh, that's why it's so expensive. In the US it's $600.

Yeah, everything to do with computers is so expensive in NZ.

PB238Q is great, but it's 23 inch. I would still recommend dell monitors more though, they have more expertise and a better warranty.

I would recommend the U2414H for you as of now. It's absolutely astounding as far as actual input lag (signal processing + response time), beating out even fast TN panels. It's also the newest cream of the crop so it has some of the best panels out there. + the added bonus of having a super sexy design with the thinnest bezels of any monitor in the world.

In Australia it's about AU$650. And I thought Aussies got ripped off.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

There might be a bigger size. I can't look, since I have to do a 30 page study guide for Romeo and Juliet.

PB248Q is not worth it for your use case.

And you should be able to buy from many Australian stores that ship to NZ .Many ebay shops will ship you stuff to NZ for the same price or just a little more.

And the user reviews for the U2414H are great everywhere else lol. You get a nice 3 year warranty from dell too (as opposed to 1 year on a majority of monitors) because it's an ultrasharp line monitor and those are their premium monitors, so I wouldn't worry much.

dear god, no. My friend has that monitor and it's horrible. Washed out colors, not a great price, and a horrible monitor UI. It also looks and feels really cheap.

On a spec page for the Dell U2414H it says it has a 8ms GTG reponse time. Is that still ok for gaming?

Response time is useless nowadays. All the maufacturers seems to use diffrerent ways of measuring it.

response time is not what matters most. What matters most is the overall input lag, and that includes both response time, but also signal processing time. 90% of the time, the response time is actually a much smaller part of the overall input lag than the signal processing time, which means that you really shouldn't pay attention to those values (unless it's something ridiculous like 30ms)

The guys over at tftcentral.co.uk have fantastic monitor reviews where they measure the actual input lag (signal processing + response time), and the U2414H happens to have fantastically low input lag of only 4ms overall.

So yes, the U2414H is great for gaming. There are other great cheaper dell IPS monitors out there, but if you want the adjustments (portrait, pivot, swivel, vesa mount etc..) + a great color gamut out of the box, then the U2414H is your best bet as it's the newest and best of the sub 500$ dell monitors out there.
