Linux Pop OS slow WIFI Issue

Go to solution Solved by C2dan88,

What distro are you using?

What is your wifi adapter? and is your OS detecting it correctly?

This will help you get info on your wifi adapter

Hello,

I am new to Linux (I know the basics, like how to use the terminal)

I've been reading and trying some stuff that doesn't work

my internet speed is super slow compared to windows 10.

on windows 10 I get at least 10mb of download but, on Linux, I'm getting 5.6kb why?

I get a 50MB down and 20 MB up

I can't even watch videos above 360p whats going on?

it's taking me hours to download just 41mbs

I'm not close enough to the router to plug it in, nor do i have the cord length.

but I'm just above it.

it's down to 4.78kbs now

3.48kbs now

1.67kbs now WTF IS HAPPENING

I'm using pop os. 20.04

I double checked the drivers and there nothing else I can install.

when I was on manjaro they made me do something with mirrors.

Do I still need to do that on pop os?

So running first command lspci returns nothing? If the command in the article dont work then what linux distro are you using? Can you state specs of your pc?

I'm convinced you never read the title.

I'm running POP OS 20.04

the gnome version is 3.36.1

I'm running off a WiFi USB chip (witch it's says its a 150 mbs chip) (the router is close I'm right above it, its a 50mb down so I should be fine, my pc is not covered so there's should be not issues but there is)

my specs are as follows

I7-920 2.6ghz

MSI AMD R7 370 2GB

4GBs 1666mhz Ram (although I have 3 sticks with 2GB each so why doesn't my system show that?)

My motherboard is GB-ex56-ud5 vs 1

old tech I know but Right now I'm stuck with em till I can save up money and get a AMD ryzen build but here in Canada I'd be lucky to even upgrade my ram smh

I even reinstall pop os (witch is my main driver, likely not changing I'm more familiar with it)

Tell us the chipset name of that wifi chip, so far it looks like it has a shitty driver and we need to know the exact name to see if there is another driver avaiable

You need to run In terminal lsusb to list USB devices

sudo lshw -C network

Should also list your wired/wireless network devices
