Choice of CPU

Hey everyone.

I am planning on building a new gaming rig but can`t realy decide on the CPU yet. Options are a i9-9900K (or KS if I can get hands on one), wait for LGA 1200 and 10. gen i9 or choose a Ryzen 9 third gen or Threadripper. Any tips on what to use are appreciated.

What resolution and refresh rate are you targeting and what GPU are you planning? Those CPUs are all at the top-end and may very well be overkill (and therefore a waste of money) depending on your goals. Especially if you are trying only gaming.

Get a 3700x
Don't get Any intel chip, ryzen 3rd gen's higher ipc makes it equal or even higher than Intel in completing instructions due to 7nm process of ryzen vs 14nm of Intels with higher energy efficiency and lower temps.
What's your budget?

Ryzen performs really well however there are trade backs when it comes to compatibility and optimizations. It all depends on what you do. If you are mainly a gamer than I would say go team blue, at least at this point. But if you take productivity into account, Ryzen might cut the edge on performance per dollar. However unless you actually need the extra PCI-E lanes, threadripper won't be that good of a choice considering the cost of motherboard.

the plan was to use a 4K 144hz ultar wide monitor. Top End ist the goal no matter at what cost

If you get a 9th gen Intel, you're dead stuck on a dead platform like me. If you get a 10th gen Intel, you're paying extra money for wifi 6 support in a 9th gen based totally not worth it chip. If I were you, I'd have got myself an AMD chip as gaming on 3rd gen Ryzen and Latest Intel chips are same due to higher ipc rates of Ryzen that makes it even and sometimes better than High clock speed intel scips with less ipc rate. And If you are very eager to get Intel, I'd wait for the 11th gen cause !0th gen is a deception.
Gaming with Intel will give you like 4 to 8fps higher than ryzen but It'll suck power like a drunk and produce enough heat to incrase your room temp up to 3 degrees higher.
Ryzen is to go for.

If that's the goal then certainly not overkill, although I don't think high refresh rate 4k+ ultrawides exist right now (more like a 5k display at that point).

For 1440p at 144hz
you need a good graphics card cause at that resolution and refresh rate, games tend to stand on the back of the gpu.

Yeah I know. I will probably use a 2080 Ti. But thanks for the help so far.
