Need final opinions for new build

tank234

So I have been looking to build a new system for myself that I will be mainly using for gaming and some school work. The motherboard for some reason I could not find but I was looking to go with the tuf x570 gaming plus. The parts that are $0 are from my old build that I will be using for my new build. Any help is appreciated.

I would drop the x570 board for a B450 MAX board like this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jcYQzy/msi-b450-tomahawk-max-atx-am4-motherboard-b450-tomahawk-max

Also drop the CPU cooler and start with the stock cooler to save some cash, they are pretty decent and you can always swap it out later if you find it's too loud. Another option would be to swap out for a 3600X for the better wraith spire (I think that's what it is with the -X) cooler and higher boost clocks. The 3600 (non-X) comes with a wraith stealth I think.

Deleted. Missed mobo and was typing too slow

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Alright thanks for the feedback. Was not sure as what board to go with but thought it would be better to get a newer board. But I probably won't be using the pcie 4.0 feature anyway. Also are there any good wifi adapters to go with that motherboard?

I guess I don't under your choice of 2 different of HHD

I would go with an high capacity and higher speed rather doing the 4tb/2tb split

I would recommend the Toshibah X300 series

4TB - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xHzZxr/toshiba-internal-hard-drive-hdwe140xzsta -   $104.99

5TB - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/kJfmP6/toshiba-internal-hard-drive-hdwe150xzsta -  $124.99

6TB - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/89Nypg/toshiba-internal-hard-drive-hdwe160xzsta -  $172.49

I notice zero SSD.  If a x570 is required the tomahawk x570 has been getting good reviews.    There are boards even cheaper than the b450 tomahawk available as well.  The primary advantage of the b450 tomahawk is it’s got very strong VRM and a lot of features similar to high end gaming boards.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

The one I would suggest appears to no longer have a price on pcpartpicker which is odd.  I notice the regular b450 tomahawk is $25 less than the tomahawk max making it a superior buy to the tomahawk.  They’re basically the same board.

Swap the Cooler Master Hyper 212 for a DeepCool Gammaxx 400 LED, lower price than the Hyper 212 and offers better cooling performance. Link to DeepCool Gammaxx 400 LED:        https://www.amazon.com/DEEPCOOL-GAMMAXX-400-Blue-Compatible/dp/B00JQ2YDCY?ref_=ast_sto_dp

To my experience generally counting the number of pipes provides a rough estimate of cooling capacity.  It doesn’t always work.  There are exceptions.  it IS possible to make garbage bites out of gouged aluminum rather than sintistered copper.  The result is six pipe coolers that can’t match 3 pipe coolers.  It is also possible to make unusually large pipes and then flatten them where a 3 pipe cooler with one large pipe might outperform a decent 4 pipe cooler.

As a rule though, a copper sintistered pipe of a given diameter is going to behave like a copper sintistered pipe of a given diameter.  Next is the fan.  212evo has a sleeve fan.  Sleeve fans are cheap and quiet but wear very very fast if set with the spindle anything but horizontal.  I don’t know what the gamaax has.

both approach overkill imho.  A 3 pipe is probably fine for a 3600
