Hello guys,I have a modem from 2012 which supports WiFi 4(802.11n) and I get around 40 mgbs speeds on my smartphone. If I buy a router with 5 GHz I will get as well 40 mgbs or faster? My ISP provides 100 mgbs.

I would say depends entirely on your phone. If the phone can do only 2.4 ghz, then upgrading to 5ghz may not help you... unless the new modem/switch has improved 2.4 ghz as well.

also note you can just leave the modem be, and buy a separate wireless router, and make a connection between them with a regular ethernet cable ... let the newer more modern router handle all the wireless stuff and let the modem just convert the ethernet to the cable the isp uses.

It all depends on your device since 5GHz device is not widely available. If your device has 5GHz support then go for it.

5GHz wifi is completely different than 5G cellular. TONS of devices support 5GHz wifi these days.

Why are you using such an old modem? Your ISP should provide you with a new one at little to no cost.

Ghz has a little to do with speed, but what you really need to do is get a modem or router that supports AC/Ax. That's where you'll see the speed increase, provided your phone also supports those standards.

What are you talking about? They're everywhere, and have been for many, many years.

The problem is that I will move after few months from where I leave now and my ISP can change it but the contract will be extended and I don't want that.Thats why I chose to buy a wireless router and connect it to my modem
