grandmaster64
Go to solution Solved by Korinne,

Whatever you choose to build, within three months....SOMEONE will build a better machine :)

I plan on buying this build in a couple weeks for competative gaming (price is no concern):

CPU: Intel Core i9-9900KS

GPU: Nvidia RTX Titan

Motherboard: ASUS rog maximus xi hero wifi

Case: not sure yet but its based off of my motherboard

SSD: Intel 900p Optane NVMe PCIe 280 GB (I will be getting more than one)

Ram: Not sure, maybe G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 DDR4 2400 C14 8x16G (UserBenchmark says its the best setup)

Power supply: AX series AX1000-1000 Watt 80 plus titanium certified Full Modular ATX PSU

Cooling: Still to be determined

Monitor: 1440P 240hz HP omen x 27

Mouse: Logitech g903 16000 dpi light sync (2020 model with power play mouse pad)

Keyboard: Steelseries Apex pro

Router: Ubiquity edge Router (model still needs to be determined)

Any thoughts for cooling, case and ram? any issues i might be over looking? i am going to overclock the heck out of this creature.

1.  I'd put an AIO cooler in it.  Will get you better overclocks than a traditional air cooler.

2.  UserBenchmark recommended 8x16GB RAM?  Wow, they've regressed more than I thought...

8x16GB is the kind of memory capacity you'd put in a server, not a gaming rig.

I'd do 4x8GB or 2x16GB at a faster clock.  (3000 MHz, maybe???)  That'll be plenty for gaming for many years.

3.  There are a lot of very good cases with very good airflow.  Honestly, just pick whatever looks the coolest to you!  xD

Sorry for the mess!  My laptop just went ROG!

I recommend swapping the intel SSD, it uses qlc nand and it's just not up to par with the tlc competition.

You're definitely going to want faster ram even if you're going with intel. I would say 3000mhz is the absolute minimum for a gaming rig. Also generally a 2x8gb kit is enough for gaming but you'll probably want a 2x16gb or 4x8gb kit considering your other parts.

As for cooling, if price is of no concern, take some extra time and effort and put in custom watercooling you'll be able to squeeze every last bit of an overclock out of these parts just make sure you can get a compatible full cover block for the titan you're getting. Also I wouldn't base your case depending on your motherboard if you're concerned about gaming performance. I would get a case with good cooling capacity and you're likely going to be into getting a full size tower or at minimum a good mid size tower to fit the cooling capacity you will need for these parts without having to have 3000rpm fans and full blast.

Another thing I would probably do is get rid of the optane drive and get one or more 2tb nvme ssd. I doubt you'll notice a difference between optane and a good nvme ssd for gaming since game loading times at that point are likely hindered by other factors.

Why? What is the purpose for this build, i keep reading you want play competitive gaming - Firstly this build is similar to my current setup and is completely unnecessary for gaming, dont get me wrong its nice, but if you arent good at the game already you cant buy success. This seems like a very ignorant and poorly thought out build (RAM for example). Are you going to use all the features on the Apex Pro, i know i dont. Why such a small SSD, even if you run more then one, it seems stupid.

Edit:

You cant even fit all that ram on that board...

I'm honestly going for what other people say is the best. I make alot of money, and I don't honestly even need all the features, but I want the best, cause I can, and for no other reason.

At that point I would follow the link to the compensator build that @Jumballi linked and just buy all the parts from that build.

2080Ti Kingpin is faster than the Titan out of the box, and considerably faster if you volt mod it. It's also cheaper than the Titan, and is water cooled out of the box.
