Building Help for Slave Machine

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Hi, first post here, first I think it's better to introduce myself, I'm Marco, a composer from Italy, I work in music production and virtual orchestration.
Going to the topic , I want to build a slave machine to do the heavy duty during composition for my imac, software side i've already experience and I know what to use, I'll use mainly Vienna Ensemble Pro to link the to machines togheter by the hardware side I've planned a configuration but I'm open to help since I'm not experienced , so to sum up:

Budget: Around 500€ and 700€ and I'm planning to buy in eu and italy e-stores , i know is modest but i think that whit this budget , cutting some corneres, I can reach what I'm looking for, I don't want a spaceship but something that can help me to have a better performance ( easily since I'm working on an iMac)

Aim: Slave machine for Vienna Ensemble Pro using Kontakt and plugins , and also I'm planning since with a desktop I can to implement some pcie (UAD) and maybe pro tools hd on PCI ( but not mandatory )

Monitors: Here's some question, since I'm considering working headless with remote control from my iMac on this side I don't plan to add money and regarding this i think with the product I'm aiming for it don't makes difference

Peripherals: same thing planning to go headless, so I assume WIn 10 pro is the go to OS.

Summing Up some of the search I've made, I think I want to go with i5 9400F , since it can have the good ration of power and budget, I know, ryzen can be an option BUT, since some music instruments company like UAD prefers intel, and I've seen plenty of threads for bugs with pairing ryzen and UAD PCIE solutions I'll go the pricier route with intell... but since some bugs were fixed feel free to help me with a ryzen budget solution, I'm open to advices and I can drop Uad if the specs/budget ratio is good.

That's a solution I've put togheter on pc partpicker bear in mind that I've already the ssd from sandisk laying around so I'll put it in, I've some question regarding case and powesrupply, I like some of the cases from Corsairs like the Carbide 175r and the 275r but I'm concerned about Heat and airflow, do they permorm bad with this setup? since I can't overclock I wonder if they're any good and could match the specs, and about the videocard, i've picked up that zotac for the 1x pcie slot, but i can go with a cheap 16x so I'm open also on that side for advices , and powersupply I know seasonic are god, but there's something cheaper that can tune better to that cpu and ram? since If i can go cheaper and modular it would be better and i can put money into improved specs rams like some 2666

Thank you so much

I'd also you buy Windows elsewhere because it's retail price is way too much. You should be able to find it for 10-15 euros somewhere.

Well I know about win, is there only for showing the choice not to buy directly from there, I use pcpartpicker as a "list" rather than a mirror to stores.

Btw why you say so? About the system, I mean working with kontakt I really need a lot of ram and fast ssd , so that's why the big ammount of ram and the sabrent , if you want to articulate more...

-Forgot something, will restore in a second-

This build is way more powerful than the one you suggested. I'd also suggest you buy Windows elsewhere because it's retail price is way too much. You should be able to find it for 10-15 euros somewhere

I mean at change rate is like 760€ including the pricier win and the ssd that I already own so cutting that is something between 550 to 600€...
