I was wondering if this cooler, rated for AM3+ will fit into an AM4 system? I've heard it does but also that it doesn't

Looks like it should be AM4 compatible, old stock might not be but it would have to be like 3+ years old at this point so it should be fine, if not Cooler Master can provide AM4 brackets for free I believe (don't quote me on that). Or you can return/exchange it with Amazon.

and also, the older 212 variants use the painful X shaped mounting frame which battles you as you try align it with the holes on the motherboard. I really hate it.

I assumed as much, that was the design back when I built a skylake i5 6600k system with a Hyper 212 LED. But the previous gen to that hyper 212 had a terrible mount design, but that is going on 6+ years old now.

It'll be ok I think, just a one time thing. Can't put many buts for that price I guess since I have an Stealth cooler and it gets toasty

@AeroMagnus The Hyper 212 @scuff gang is using is the updated Hyper 212 Black.

If you are buying the RR-212E-20PK-R2 model from your Amazon link, it is the old Hyper 212 EVO, which uses the 'X' mounting bracket @Jurrunio mentioned.

The RR-AM4B-H212-S1 bracket.

The RR-AM4B-H212-S1 bracket.

yes, the one from my link uses that x mounting system, from the looks of it, it is adjustable and fits AM4? or are those "x"s different? Because they look a bit different

I don't know how Cooler Master is packaging the Hyper 212 EVO with the AM4 bracket.

For Intel, they ALSO have a 'X' bracket -- I am using a Hyper 212 EVO on my i7-8086K PC right now.

They might have a couple of 'X' brackets included with the CPU cooler -- you need to use the one for AM4.

The brackets can open & close, so you may need to open + adjust the 4x screws to line-up with the mounting holes on the motherboard.

Sorry for the big picture, just took it on my phone, and uploaded it here.

The Intel 'X' bracket with the screws and opening the 'X' up to fit LGA 1151 socket.

ok, thank you very much, I saw that the pure rock slim is the same price and actually says AM4 on the page, would you recommend that over the 212?

The Hyper 212 EVO is the better performing CPU cooler VS the BeQuiet Pure Rock Slim.

What other options is available for you in your price range?

If I'm looking through Amazon Mexico, the next CPU cooler worth getting from the Hyper 212 EVO, would be the Arctic Freezer 34 eSports.

But that is $879...

yeah thats out of my price range.

do you think there much difference between 212 and pure rock? because I'm risking it (the 212) not including the proper mounting mechanism and the pure rock does. Say, I dont *need* it for my work, but my 2600 reaches 83c while rendering so it makes me uncomfortable

Are you buying it from that Amazon link then?

If it is being sold by Amazon Mexico, 95%+ it will have the AM4 bracket included.

The Pure Rock Slim is a lower performing cooler...
