I figured out the loss of communication problem but the "solution" isn't a solution. The boinc-client service keeps committing seppuku for an unknown reason. Restarting the service it just commits seppuku again.

 

I'm only getting this behavior on Hyper-v and my desktop's QEMU/KVM instances. However none of the PROXMOX instances are experiencing this issue.

 

If I'm going to bunker effectively I think I have no choice but to make larger disks all around. Maybe if I'm lucky that's why the service keeps killing itself.

 

I have no time to deal with this tomorrow. Friday I should though. Right before we can actually start to bunker.

 

f*** it I'll give all of them 128GB drives. (except the one where the boot drive is only 64GB)

I went with 200GB and even that seems low, this I think is either good news or bad news, I'm not sure which. If this results in bunkering being far more challenging for everyone all round I'm hopeful we might win out from that, maybe.......

If bunkering ends up being a disaster for us then as you said it's the same for everyone else at least. Except those already knowledgeable and prepared for how Rosetta@Home works.

On both of my servers I could easily hand off 1TB to each VM temporarily. 5960X rig can have 500GB, my desktop 250GB/VM. 3930K rig will get the short stick. It won't be doing much bunkering. I'll find out how it goes when I get around to it Friday or at the earliest late Thursday night.

 

For now I put all the rigs back on WCG. No point having them sit idle till I can do something about the situation.

Then just release the upload limit when you want to dump all the completed work for some sweet points at the right time. It's not the most optimal way but it will work.

is a load average of 46 bad on a 16-thread system Got that one fixed. Wildly under capacity now - but at least I know know how much RAM I have to buy in the next couple of days.

 

Moved a bunch of RAM around, pillaged the younger kid's 2 x 8GB DDR4-3200 and replaced it with 2 x 4GB DDR-2400 - wonder if they'll notice (evil dad) perhaps this will teach them not to have 50 Chrome tabs open

So guys, what kinda estimated time are you guys seeing on your Rosetta WUs. Finally got the new BIOS chips in and OC'd the 5960x to 4.1GHz to start off with. Trying to see if she's running as expected.

Before I shut it down due to unpredicted file sizes one of my rig I was looking at a little over 4 hours.

 

But then another rig I was looking at 14 so...

My 5960x, 4.5GHz @ 1.275V, with the AIO I'm seeing like 75C peak temps. I think I can be happy with that! 

 

I think my 4 cards folding is taking the cycles from the BOINC projects so I am setting it to finish and will see how we are doing after that. 

 

ATM I'm seeing 23H-27H so clearly something isn't exactly happy there.

Check your RAM usage and system load.

 

I saw ridiculous numbers for time when the system was swapping and un-responsiveness when too many cores were assigned.

 

I found the best stability when I had at least 1GB free mem and 1 thread free for the OS on Linux.

 

Might want to double those for Windoze

I'm currently running it on 12 threads, left the others free to finish up the folding.

Just pause - it won't free up RAM but you'll get an idea about thread usage

I need them to finish anyway as I'm going to update the client and I've had issues with leaving projects there on my other system.

 

So will just leave it as is and will check it in a few hours.

Core22 tends to want 1-1.5GB/GPU.

 

With my 16t systems:

8GB could only do 4-8 threads R@H with 2 x GPU

16G 13 threads R@H & 2 x GPU

12G 5 threads R@H & 4 GPU

I just realized because of the VPS I setup on one of my VM servers I can remote into most of the servers at home while I'm at work on my lunch break and re-setup the VMs with a lot more storage this time.

 

Maybe I can have it done today.
