rtx 2060 + best budget cpu ($600 aud)

I currently have a i7 2600k and have a rtx 2060, can anyone suggest a cpu i can upgrade to that will give me 200fps+ on fortnite, r6, csgo etc. if u could also suggest a budget motherboard that would be nice too.

get a 3600x. what size case do you have?

dam your conversion to USD sucks. a 3700X is almost 600

Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

 

Very well-established CPU and motherboard.

If you want something dirt-cheap go with the Ryzen 1600 AF.

Other than core count, 3700x doesn't have much of a performance difference, even though it costs $100+ dollars more. (it only has more cores.)

Save money and upgrade to a better GPU later.

I haven't actually studied up, what are the differences between the Tomahawk and Tomahawk Max? I think it's the power delivery, but I could be mistaken

If you pay for X570, you're paying about 100 Aud more for features you won't use. There are B450 boards out there that can power a 3900X...

its not that amazing of a board. it barley can do a 3900X at 1.25V

Probably true, but it should be fine for the 3600.  At the $600 AU price point the OP is definitely not going with a 3900x.

 4th gen ryzen are going to likely have similar power draw to 3rd gen. better boards that can run high end chips always sell for more or give you a better upgrade path if you choose to buy a used chip in a few years.

My z170m plus is a horible z170 board and I'd struggle to sell it but a nicer z170A prime were easy to sell.

My z170m plus is a horible z170 board and I'd struggle to sell it but a nicer z170A prime were easy to sell.

200fps is a tall order. 3600 will get you close in a lot of games, but fall short in many others.
