USB-C Screen disconnects and reconnects when playing video games

Hey Guys,

 

I have a really weird issue and after surfing and trying out different solutions I thought maybe you could help me.

I have my laptop connected to a screen via USB-C. The Screen acts as a USB-Hub and my mouse and keyboard are connected to the screen aswell. So basically the only connection between my laptop, mouse, keyboard and screen is one USB-C cable which is also charging the laptop. Usually this setup runs smoothly without any random disconnects or display issues, but whenever I do something that is a little more power consuming, or more intense for the graphics card, like playing CS:GO my screen starts disconnecting and reconnecting rapidly. This usually happens when the laptop is fully charged.

I'm using a Lenovo ThinkPad E495 with a Thinkvision T25m screen

I thought it has something to do with the power settings on my graphics card and after changing the graphic cards power plan to "battery optimization" it seemed to work for a bit. But after playing some time the issues started happening again.

 

TLDR:

Screen including USB-Hub with mouse and keyboard is connected to laptop via USB-C and powers it.
No problems doing office tasks, surfing, watching videos etc..
Random disconnects and reconnects when playing video games, usually when the laptop is fully charged. 

 

I'm looking forward to replys and suggestions.

Sounds like the system cant provide enough power to everything all at once, which is why it's cutting out. If you connect the keyboard and mouse directly to the laptop, does anything change?

Might be a loose connection as well.

Unfortunatly nothing changed. Nothing is connected to the screen and still the same issues occur.

Yes that could work, but my laptop has only one USB-C port which is the charging port. So I would have to connect to the screen via HDMI and the USB-Hub would be useless, which removes the whole purpose of this setup.

I tried. Everything works fine via HDMI. But I really want to make use of the build in usb hub.

"Everything through USB-C" is great in theory, but in practice it tends to be a bit finicky. There isn't really anything obvious you can do, so guess contacting support and complaining might be the best course of action.

I had the same issue, when I ran games using only usb c to charge my computer it disconnected and caused my computer to even crash. What solved it for me was to simply connect my charger and it worked flawlessly.
