Should I upgrade my Plasma TV?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm new to the forum and to the TV screen environment. I still have my 43 inch 2009 Viera Plasma. It works fine, but I get pressured by my friends to 'upgrade' to something else. Is it really worth it to buy another TV?

If it's working fine and you don't have a problem with it, why waste your money on a new one?

Like what NZgamer said if it's fine you don't need a new one and if your friends are pressuring you then there is a problem with your friends. Don't waste your money because of your friends.

Is the picture good? Is there a sort of problem with it? Is there an actual problem that requires you to buy a new TV that isn't your "friends". Anyways, not a TV guy, more of a monitro guy since i don't really watch TV stuff, but over all same deal. If YOU don't need it or want it, there really isn't a reason.

I used my 55" Sony from 2006 to 2019.

It is only when I decided to hook up a computer to it that I started looking for a new one and only got one when a G-sync compatible TV was available.

If I wasn't a 4k gamer I would have waited until it broke or 4k became the new broadcasting standard.

What I recommend is that you ask your friends to buy one for you. That will shut them up.

Going from a Plasma u'd only really want to look at OLEDs.

LG has a 48" OLED coming soon, May/June.

If its of any value, I myself also have a Plasma as my only PC display, and i fully intend on upgrading to that 48" OLED. LCD just isnt an option when coming from Plasma.

My primary reason for upgrading is that my Plasma is dying, its got issues to put it mildly. But also beocuse its still just 60hz 1080p and i'd really like to run 120hz, and go up on the resolution aswell. LGs OLEDs can do 120hz 4k, with BFI and VRR, all ill need to do is also upgrade my GPU to a new 2020 model that has HDMI 2.1 to get the full 4k 120hz capability.

So should u do it ? If u want to yes, but only if u have the GPU power to handle 4k resolutions and ofc the money to afford it.
