500 watt enough for a 1060 and 2060?

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

I bought a Ibuypower pre-built last year and I have been lately obsessed with upgrading it. The pre-bill came with a GTX 1060 but I bought a RTX 2060 For cod mw. Are use the 2060 for gaming and the 1060 has been my dedicated encoder for the last week. My issue is that I don’t know if 500 W power is enough. How do I know if it’s not enough? Everything seems to be OK and I’m not having any issues as far as I can tell. Two days ago to 2060 crashed or something and wasn’t even showing up in my system but I thought maybe that was unrelated. Thoughts? By The way this is my first time posting in a forum. So if I’m doing something wrong I’m sorry

I would Highly Recommend upgrading your Power Supply

160W (2060) + 120W (1060) + 95W (CPU, Just saying 95 as a base point)  that is already 375W. That doesnt Include Hard drives and the motherboard etc.

500W is enough, that said the quality of pre-built PSU's is usually quite poor, and without multi-rail protection voltage ripple can fry a component, and while 500W is likely enough I would not use a 500W PSU.

Refer to this list:

I recommend tier A or higher for a multi GPU setup, and consider 650W+, obviously multi-rail is the ideal, but those PSU's are more expensive for obvious reasons.
