1440p/144hz or 4K/60 hz? 🤔

Which one do you think provides a better gaming experience?  

 

Also which one is harder to run? Like is it harder to get 144 FPS @ 1440p or 60 FPS @ 4K?

 

Im curious because I currently have a 1440p/144hz monitor and I’m wondering if going to 4K/60hz will provide enough of a performance increase to justify the cost of the new monitor?

 

Or does it all depend on which games are being played?

If you mostly play online shooters, go for the 144. Otherwise 4K is a lot better.

Mostly I play games like: Resident Evil 2 (remake) & 3 when it comes out next week, World of Warcraft, Devil May Cry 5, Metro Exodus, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, CS: GO, Dead by Daylight, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, Cities: Skylines, Call of Duty: MW, etc.,

 

I play a lot of games, some of them online shooters, so which one would be best for me? I currently have a 27” MSI Optix MAG271CQR 1440p/144hz 1ms RT Monitor.

Personally I'd go 1440@144hz as on a screen this size I can't justify 4K. People will argue there's a difference and from a granular technical analysis there probably is, but for gaming I'd always suggest a higher refresh rate and that will being a smoother overall feel when gaming.

1440p 144 is better than 4k 60 hands down.

I'll take 1440p ultra wide over 4k too.

Oh ok so just keep my current monitor and save the money for something else then? I’m the kind of person who likes to constantly plan what to upgrade next on my PC (it’s just a hobby and something I like to do ) and I thought maybe the monitor was it but I guess I’ll find something else to upgrade .

Ah ok thanks! My monitor is pretty good and feels really smooth at 1440/144 but I wasn’t sure since I’ve never gamed on a 4K monitor .

I'd argue no need to constantly buy stuff there is a time to just keep what you have and wait.

Yeah I know but it’s just a hobby. I know it’s totally unnecessary but it gives me something to do. I’m the kind of person who strongly believes that what a person does with their own hard earned money is totally up to them (as long as it’s not illegal), and for me tinkering with my PC is what I like to do.  

 

Plus it keeps my computer from ever becoming outdated where I’d have to spend a fortune all at once to replace everything. 
 

But on that note it’s not like I buy something new every week. Usually I try not to buy more than one component every 3-4 months whether it’s an SSD, some more fans, another 2x sticks of RAM or something big like a graphics card or CPU.

 

My last upgrade was 3 months ago when I upgraded my MSI z370-a Pro motherboard with an MSI MEG Z390 ACE.

I'm exactly the same sue me! Have you thought about a second monitor? Do you do any productivity work and you could have a lesser, cheaper monitor for browsing while gaming or whatever? 

 

That's what I'm doing next as my rig is pretty solid for now (only built in Jan) and although I need a little more storage I'm actually good for now. So I got a dual arm vesa mount and the next thing is a second monitor.

Nah I don’t have a second monitor. Sadly I don’t have room for one :(. This is my setup below, as you can see there’s not much space for another monitor.

 

I just game and web browse on my PC &

I have my Nintendo Switch (on the bottom left) plugged into the monitor. It does an amazing job at those things with the 2080 Ti & 8700K but I could do productivity things with the 32GB of RAM which is way more than I need.

 

Im thinking of learning to do video editing but I think 32GB of RAM is still enough for that .

You could easily get a vesa mount on there and bring the monitor up and "floating" to have dual monitors, I get what you mean though about space. 

 

Video editing is fun and pretty simple to get the basics of. However I use my mac for all my video editing as that's where I've been doing it for years.
