600w PSU for RTX 2080 Ti?

Hey, is it possible that i can use this GPU -> Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti Gaming OC with an Thermaltake 600w Smart RGB 80 Plus (not Bronze or Gold or anything) PSU?

It's possible, but I wouldn't. That PSU model appears to be average at best and pairing it with a power hungry card could lead to a bad time. You also don't mention what CPU you're using and if you plan on overclocking anything, all of which will increase power requirements.

 

There's a good PSU tier list on the forum that will give you all kinds of alternatives.

Thermaltake smart PSUs are garbage, do not use it with a 2080 ti. What is your budget for a replacement, and what country?

 

Your CPU, as well as the rest of your specs, also matter quite a bit in choosing a power supply. You should attach a PCParticker.com list.

you have an 80+ platinum PSU in your profile specs, which means the PSU is delivering close to 500 watts to your components. That would make a 600 watt PSU a-ok for this case.

Its a Prebuilt PC that came with a Blower RTX 2080 Ti from MSI that strangely you cant buy anywhere in my Country (Germany) except on Sites from the US or Turkey..?
you can only find info on it on the Chinese MSI Website and im not happy with it anymore because its way too loud and hot, thats why im desperately looking for a replacement and something more silent, so to say, Power Limit with the blower was 100 % and it never ,,sucked“ more than 250w, shouldnt it be enough if i power limit the Gigabyte too? Im not planning on overclocking anything, i was and am satisfied with the performance but the noise under load from the blower is unbearable, i cant take it anymore.
 

My other Specs are:

32GB 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM

i9-9900K Watercooled with Enermax LiqTech II 280mm 

1TB Crucial NVMe M2 SSD
2TB Seagate HDD 7200rpm

again, wattage is no problem at all but you need a quality power supply for a rig as high profile as this one.

yes and no. that card recommends at least a 650W PSU but if you lower the overall voltage going to it and don't expect to be playing at the highest possible settings for each game then you should be fine.

My EVGA XC is too loud overclocked if the game uses a lot of CPU(air cooled) as well.  It stays at stock most of the time. 

The FTW3 Ultra is quite under load and I average 2040mhz in games with the stock fan curve. Unlike the XC it has a 24/7 overclock.

 

Even with stock clocks on the XC I set the power limit to max to help keep things smooth while there is a lot of action on screen. Without an overclock it rarely goes over 110%. 

according to GPU Z it uses at most 354 watts.

Are you saying that the AX860 isn't 80+ platinum? I don't see what you're getting at here.

 

546 watts from the wall roughly translates to 500 watts of power delivery, based on a 92% efficiency. That's not a spec or anything, that's just some napkin math based on 80+ platinum.

My i7 8086k at 5.1ghz uses 152 watts max. You have one so you could test it yourself.

My EVGA uses 387 watts max. That is a bit over what it states in the bios but I posted the bios images here.

 

The only bench/game that hit my CPU and GPU hard at the same time is AC:O and that is how I test real world max output. All my synthetic benches hit one or the other but none both at the same time.

 

GPU Z tells me I am using 383 watts max when playing. 

The ASUS EC sensor on my Hero board tells me the CPU power usage through HWiNFO is 132 watts when playing. 

The power meter plug readings go well with what the software is telling me so I would like to know what is off.

Is it GPU Z, HWiNFO or my power meter that is off. 

 

Do you think the software is catching spikes in power usage that the power meter does not see?  Like on the other side of the PSU(not the wall side).

All I want to do is figure out what is causing the discrepancy.

Software power measurement has always been less reliable than hardware. If you were interested in per component power draw, you'd need some clamps for the cables going to the boards.

I didn't calculate, I used the same watt meter you're using. That's my power draw from the socket. I used an aida64 stress test.

I have decided to replace Corsair 860 since I think it may have a flaw.  Occasionally the EVGA FTW3 Ultra is power starved. It may be an issue with the card but it runs fine on my other PSUs. What happens is I will load a game and notice I am getting low frame rate(stutter). I switch on MSI Afterburner and the readings seem to be stuck. The GPU temperature will be in the 40s and that is well below its operating temps. The power limit will be stuck around 61 to 67% and the mhz usually shows 2115 which is what the card spikes to before it heats up under load.  This condition survives a reboot so switching off then on is the only way to get rid of it.

I think it is called a bios freeze from what I read. 

 

The Corsair did fail running two GTX 1080 tis and that should not happened either. Nowhere did I find a post with someone having issues with 850s watts with that setup. 

   

If the FTW3 Ultra gets a bios freeze with the new PSU it will be RMAed.

850W? yes that will be more than enough. the most the 2080ti pulls is around 350-400W so 600 would have bottlenecked in on power having to pull it from other places to get the power required for the settings you wanted. 850W has extra so it will pull from the PSU the power it needs.

 

most PSUs of gold quality or higher have a 10 year warranty
