Brand New PC build

Hello guys, I am planning to build a brand new gaming PC with a budget of around $2000-2500.

I have a small list of preliminary parts but I am stuck on what to choose for the motherboard.

List so far:

cpu: amd 3700x

cpu cooler: noctua NH d15

graphics : Msi 2080 super

ram: corsair vengeance lpx 32 GB(4X 8 gb sticks)

power supply: Corsair RMX 750 Watts

Case: corsair 750 D

I did a little research and found motherboard as Msi tomahawk B450 Max

I realize there is a newer chipset X570 but I am not sure if its worth because of the price to performance ratio.

Please give some advice on whether I should get a x570 or stick with tomahawk max (if there are other B450 boards that are better, please link)

I was looking at x570 asrock taichi. it had mixed reviews online and I never used asrock boards.

x570= better vrm (means lesser crashes and overall cooler pc), pci 4.0 (support newest m.2ssd's, will support gpu's that use pci e 4.0) better look. better audio, internet and ram.

 

msi b450 tomahawk max is a decent choice. asus prime x570 pro is pretty good for its price.

get 2x16. you'll be able to run it at higher speeds.

 

 

as for mobo, if you think you'l lever upgrade to a 12 or 16 core, go x570, any asus x570 will do.

if you stick to 8 cores, the tomahawk will be enough.

any thoughts on the fans on the mobo?

those seem finicky, I am kind of scared it might stop working after a year or two

Everybody would have preferred a passive cooling solution instead of those fans, however we are stuck with them for now. Unless you get the one (very expensive) passively cooled Gigabyte board or the watercooled Asrock board. I wouldn't worry too much about the fan. If it's too big of a concern to you, go with the MSI B450 Max boards.

Which MSI 2080 Super are you getting? The Gigabyte Windforce OC (3-fan) is usually around the same price as the MSI Ventus OC, which only has 2 fans.

550w are enough.

you mean get 2 16 gb sticks at a higher clock speed? the one I selected is 3200 Mhz

Go for X570, don't need an NH-D15 for a 3700x, low TDP chip so that is an overspend.

Ryzen LOVES fast dual channel memory, get a 2x16GB kit of 3200MHz RAM or faster, CL16 or better.

PSU choice is fine, you could make due with 650W very comfortably if you wanted.

Personal opinion, change the case, 750D is big  and outdated, not great for airflow, and unless you need the extra expansion it is pointless, you your system will look tiny in that case. I recommend the Fractal Design Meshify C TG, or the Phanteks P400A, better cases all around.

Kinda went white themed, you could for for more black easily by getting a black cooler and the black version of the Meshify. If you want white PSU cables it would better to get the white RMx versus paying for the RM plus white extensions.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I really like the meshify case, Might go with that. 

Also switching to the memory you linked. 

also gonna try to get windforce 2080 like @ShinRamen mentioned.

3600 is ideal. 3200 is ok as well.

but yes, go for 2x16gb sticks.

with 4 sticks, you will only be able to run them at 2667 or 2933.

rmx is a better quality series. i'd go with rmx550 with your build.

Meshify is a great case, my main system sits in it, well built, very good airflow, perfect size for an ATX enclosure, best cable management I've come across in any case I've owned, despite all my HDD and SSD slots being populated, so a good choice!

 

In terms of $/GB this is the next best option between 3300-3600Mhz, G.skill is solid as well.

Windforce OC is a better card in terms of cooling so a good choice.

So I might be putting my PC in the 2nd floor where  I don't want to run ethernet cables, so I am looking to get a mobo with wifi

I have some money left so I am also thinking to go with a premium x570 board (possibly upgrade cpu to 3900x as well) 

could use your opinion on this @TheDailyProcrastinator @boggy77 @ShinRamen

Really depends on what you are using the PC for - for gaming you won't really benefit from a 3900X over a 3700X. Do you have a use for those 12 cores?

Have you looked into the possibility of power-line networking? Worked great for me personally and I'd take it over WiFi again.

Don't bother with the 3900x, if you really wanted to you could upgrade next gen but for gaming it probably isn't worth it at the moment.

i saw somewhere that might be the case

Also could you recommend some good RGB fans, i was looking at corsair ML rgb series and they are so expensive

It should could with the AM4 brackets.

 

Deepcool has a pack of 5 kit that seems okay, never used it, only personally have used the ML's, but I can't imagine they are bad.
