How should I use 970 Evo NVMe?

Scrubie

Hello.

I have couple of questions about the new SSD I got. I just installed it on the mobo(MSI Z270 Pro Carbon) and don't know what to do next. So here we go;

  • GPT or MBR?
  • I've installed the driver from it's website but should I install the Samsung Magician too?
  • My current BIOS settings are AHCI enabled and m.2 Genie disabled. Should I keep these as is or change them?

P.s.: I have already 1 Sata SSD and 1 HDD. Therefore I'm using my old SSD for the Windows so new one is only for games.

GPT, only use mbr if you have a reason to(you would know or have a issue if you need it)

Id stay away from Magician, Its just extra stuff on the system and doesn't really help.

What about BIOS settings? Any idea on them? Also NTFS or exFAT?

Just install it to check the information and uninstall it.

EDIT: run CrystalDiskInfo to check for errors.

NTFS is the best for windows, exFAT is made mostly for removable media and is missing many features.

Don't really have to touch anything in the bios, Id test performance first.

Results for benchmark that I did;

  • Sequential Read : 3556 MB/s
  • Sequential Write : 2480 MB/s
  • Random Read : 274658 IOPS
  • Random Write : 406250 IOPS

So everything seems like as it should be. But temperature is 54 C after benchmark. Also my mobo has m.2 shield. Should I install it? Will it help about the heat?

thats speeds seems fine.

Those temps are fine for now, maybe monitor in games to see if it gets hotter. But if you got the heatsink might aswell user it.
