Thermal paste

Marbo

Numbnuts here needs thermal paste, and didn't get any before lock down. I really don't want to order online right now. It just seems like a complete waste of time for the delivery companies, who are already under pressure.

Every time a delivery driver or postie goes out they are risking their health to bring our orders. I don't want to put anyone at risk for a bit of thermal paste.

However I have lots of time really could do with some to start testing my latest restoration project.

Serious suggestions please. Anything I could use short term that I may already have or could pick up from the supermarket next time I go for supplies?

Moly grease perhaps?

you'd be better off using the toothpaste to lap the heat spreader and heatsink, and run dry, than to use it as thermal paste.

i'd rather suggest you use whatever dried up thermal gunk is left on the cpu or heatsink, than using anything from the supermarket...

Absolutely nothing I stripped the whole thing down and cleaned everything

You need thermal paste. Contrary to popular internet memes, toothpaste and mayo do not, in fact, work at all.

Im not quite at the point where I'm considering food products.

I was thinking more along the lines of the lithium grease. Although this would probably turn into a thin liquid and possibly damage the board.

Grease is one great way to kill the hardware and cook it to death.

Just buy the paste. Those delivery service people will work regardless of you buying stuff or not. If they work for decent company, that company cares about their workers health and has already placed measures to make sure they are alright while working. Like wearing protective gloves when handling stuff, washing their hands, avoiding customer contacts.

The delivery people from here drop your stuff at the door and then walk away, watching from a small distance. Works really well! :) And if it's small enough, like thermal paste should be, they will just put it through the door like a normal letter. :)

I definitely get what you're saying. It just seems wrong.

I commend you on your empathy, but to be honest life goes on. People will still have to make some money. 😉

Just order the paste with some groceries stuff or other stuff you would get anyway.  We did that for my bluetooth dongle and it came in the same box as our peanut butter and omega 3.
