How is it connected?

If it's using a single 3.5mm wire to connect, you would need to get a splitter on PC. Your Android phone has a 4 pin 3.5mm jack, which can take microphone+headphones at the same time. But your PC has two separate ports for both; meaning you need to get a female 4 pin 3.5mm to 2 male 3 pin 3.5mm wires.

Be sure to press the 'quote' button underneath a user's post, that way we get a notification of your response.

Anyways, so you're connecting the headphones with a 3.5mm jack to your laptop's port? And your laptop has 1 port? That surely has to be a headphone+microphone combo port. But you can double check this by looking at the icon next to it. If it's a combination port, it will show a combination of a headphone and microphone next to the port.

Ensure your privacy settings are not blocking the program you're using, from accessing the microphone (Settings > Privacy > 'Allow apps to access your microphone').

Try going to Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound > Recording > Press your microphone (which could be something like 'Realtek audio' too) > click > Set Default > Now go to properties > Listen > tick the 'Listen to this device' > Apply

Now talk. Do you hear anything?

appreciate the info,

yes the port in the laptop has an icon that shows a headset with  mic.

yes i did check the privacy and all was okay, all apps had access to mic.

also i did go control panel and sounds... in the recording devises as you can see in pic it show these, i go in properties and check the box "listen to device" and i do hear myself in the headset but my voice is only picked up by the laptop mic. i also did the show disabled devices.

normally my mic should appear in this list correct ?

btw i have an acer nitro laptop

also i installed razer synaps software but it does not open

i have no idea what to do next

Try to set this other device as the default. First click on it, then set as default:

Now do the same 'Properties > Listen' etc. thing.

The 'listen to' thing is only to check if you can hear yourself talking through the microphone, because it could be that the microphone is connected to that Realtek card.

Alright, hold up.. I think I missed something.

If you set that Stereo Mix thing as default and turn on the 'listen to' thing, do you hear yourself talking?

Same for the microphone array. You hear yourself? (But through the laptop microphone, if I understood correctly).

If you can hear yourself - through the headset microphone - you know your microphone works with your laptop. Then you just need to make it work with your program of choice (Discord, Teams, etc.).

If you cannot hear yourself, there is still something wrong.

Can you take a picture of the headphone port, preferably where I could see the icon next to it as well?

Or a laptop model numbers would work too.

Yea, that's a microphone+headphone combo jack...

Hmm, if neither 'recording' device in your laptop is working, it might just be a driver issue. Check what soundcard you have in Device Manager and download the right drivers online from an official website.
