Google Authenticator trouble

The Auth codes... And flashing firmware or reset means that you would need to add all services again. So the proper way to do things is to remove 2FA before doing that. Or add another backup device.

Hi!

How am I supposed to do in my Xiaomi Mi Max 2 to set up Google Authenticator. I've gotten so far that 2-step verification is done, but now the authenticator just keeps giving 6-digit codes for my gmail.

I'm lost. Thanks in advance!

When you login, in addition to your username and password, google will ask for a code from your authenticator app.

That's how that form of 2nd factor authentication works.

I know how 2-step authentication theoretically works, i'm just lost at setting it up.

The app is showing 6-step codes.

I'm logged in to my pc and phone, but auth app just thinks it has to give more codes for my Google account, sites thet require 2-step say that they've sent the code to my authenticator, but there's just that google account code over and over.

The code changes periodically. Every 30 seconds in most known cases.

It's only useful while logging in. Just put the code when google asks for it.

Existing logins are not effected unless you force google to logout of every device.

But how about not being able to receive codes from sites thet sent them?

Or maybe there's a good option to check if the app works correctly- some sites baybe to register or something?

Sites cannot 'send' codes to an authenticator app. What they want is a code from the authenticator. There is no sending of code involved from site to the app unless you're talking about steam or facebook.

How about trying to log in to Rockstar but after sign in button there's the:

Quote

2-Step Verification
***@gmail.com, please enter the verification code from your Authenticator App.

No code in my phones authenticator.

Yes. It wants you to enter a code from your authenticator app. Nowhere does it mention that it sent any code to your app.

And? How about getting that code?

What sends it is irrelevant at this point imo.

Nope. thats the code for "signing in to google account" with 2-step. Or if misunderstood - i'm past the 2-step for google account.

I just want to know how to receive authenticator codes for anything else than Google.

If you're using 'Sign in with Google' anywhere, that's the code you need to use.

Though, at this point, I'm totally confused as to what you're trying to do.

Maybe try explaining it a bit more clearly.

I'm trying to test - is the app working.

Trying to log in to rockstar - nothing happens after correct login.  Nothing but a message: "... please enter the verification code from your Authenticator App."

What's going on in the app - looping 6-digit code for enabling 2-step auth step for the app.

Only shows Google, like in the picture:

(Does not show Ubisoft, nor Rockstar, although I requested it)

Did you try to setup the google authenticator on your rockstar account but stopped half way?

Did it provide you with a QR code to scan?

My Rockstar account was made 1 year ago, so no stoping half way... it all worked before I flashed my Android phone and cleared all apps and settings.

Don't remember the qr code part, but it was an ordeal to set up the Rockstar account that I remember.

Did you previously have 2nd factor setup for your Rockstar account?

If you formatted your phone and lost your 2nd factor codes, you can enter a recovery code that's provided when you first enable the 2FA. If you don't have those, contact support and try another recovery mechanism.

Well, the Rockstar isn't a problem. The 2-step was enabled before and worked fine.

I'm worried about the Google auth app not giving other more important codes.

That means you lost your ability to produce 2FA codes. The only option is to try recovering your account with the recovery code or by contacting support.

Also, ditch Google Authenticator for Authy. Authy has backup mechanism so you don't lose your codes across phone wipes as long as you can get into your Google account.

Two things. Or maybe more.

1) Is the app/site you are trying to log in show up in your Google Auth? If not, have you tried scrolling?

2) Google Auth doesn't have backup. Except with backup codes. So on every new device you need to setup all your sites again. If you have changed device and didn't setup new before, then only way to get things going is to use recovery codes to log in, then setup G Auth again.

3) If you have site/app showing in G Auth, try resyncing services.

4) Every site needs its own auth code generator. I have 6 sites, two of them are Google accounts.

1) Not showing up at all. Tried scrolling.

2) I've set up G Auth several times, still it only has Google 6-digit code.

3) How to resync services? .. never mind, i think did it and no change.

Resyncing would require you to have service showing in first place. Its done from settings if you ever need it. Pretty much what it does is reset timers for codes.

I made Rockstar SC account just to see how it would go. You will need to have codes showing in order to enable it. So have you done it with another device previously and haven't added this one? That would be only reason I can see for it to ask codes when you have it in "disabled" state.

Erm, I've logged in to Rockstar with only this phone, though I flashed firmware and every setting was gone.

But I guess I have to look for more clues myself.

Well, seems that Rockstar services are disrupted, maybe? As I can't reach even support page. But I was able to set up Facebook 2FA with Google Authenticator. So all is good it seems.
