SSD m.2 question

I was about to pull the trigger on a western digital blue 1 TB m.2 sata drive. Then paranoia struck when I heard about m.2 drives getting very hot and needing a heat sink and all that. And that’s something I’m not willing to deal with. Is any of this true? Or is it very circumstantial? I prefer this over a traditional sata SSD but if this means I’m getting an overheating drive I rather go traditional.

Unless you're moving big files all the time, you're good. Gen 4 are even hotter and they still perform properly.

Sata drive don't get very hot. Even so, a little bit of warmth is good for the drive, as it will transfer files quicker.

So the new nvme m.2 get hotter than the m.2 sata drives?

Yes.

But even then - unless the SSD is below a video card and doesn't have a cooler - a little bit of heat is fine and actually improves performance.

Well my motherboards m.2 slot is underneath my rtx 2070 S. Is that an issue?
