PCIe 3.0 x4 for GPU folding

For a GPU like an RTX 2060, would being slotted into a PCIE x16 slot in x4 mode hurt the folding performance of it?

Quite the opposite, actually. Reducing lanes has little to no effect on GPU compute. Totally different workload compared to gaming that doesn't require nearly as much bandwidth.

There have been some pretty insane GPU compute + PLX implentations with buckets of GPUs and other PCI devices mooching off of a single chip.

You'll be fine, you won't see any difference in compute performance.

Not so much, It's just filling the memory up then computing it. It's not constantly using that bandwidth like a game would. Mining rigs almost always run off PCI-E 1x for this reason, they want density for compute power. My 1080 Hybrid is only using 700MB right now F@H.

I have one of my 5700XTs in a 4x slot. No problem at PCie 4.0. For the lolz I switched it to 3.0 and nothing changed PPD wise. When I try to game I have big FPS losses on most games.

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂
