Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

If you actually get the money.  The anti corruption head there to make sure the money wasn’t misused was fired by the administration just after he was appointed.  Checks are going out, but the system seems to me to be designed to keep the money away from lower income americans and smaller businesses now.

me I’m not counting chickens till they hatch

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Well, this lower income american will be irritated, but let's keep this apolitical.....don't need wars starting in a well unified topic

Yes, but only under very demanding load conditions like multi-user servers, like a Storage Area Network server with lots of attached SSD, 10 or 40 gigabit Ethernet and/or fast fibre channel, etc. It's nice having lots of PCIe lanes (more than 16), but they cannot usually be well utilized on a desktop PC. Notice how PCI3 4.0 NVMe storage doesn't necessarily improve games loading times, etc. (Windows NTFS leaves something to be desired in this context.)

PCIe 3.0 is made of ~1GB bi-directional lanes that can be shared between devices. It's conceivable that loading a billion vertices onto a graphics card will keep a 16-lane PCI 3.0 connection busy for a few moments, but this traffic load on the PCIe bus is generally not sustained for very long. You could use PCIe to compensate for a lack of texture memory on a video card, but the results are not great. Not sure how much CPU/GPU data exchange is required for folding, but I would suspect 4-lanes would be more than enough.

PCIe 4.0 16-lane bandwidth (31.5GB/s) looks like dual-channel DDR4-2166 RAM (34.7GB/s).

If it's any help in figuring this out, my P106-100 is reporting using a steady 60% of the PCIe slot it's plugged int. It's in the lower slot of a Gigabyte P55 board (https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/GA-P55A-UD4P-rev-10/sp#sp) which is PCIe 2.0 x8 so yes some bandwidth is needed while folding, not just for loading up the maths to the memory.

<rant> DAM you @Zberg For some reason yet beyond my comprehension i have orders the Meshify S2 IN WHITE.  mostly because 1 i want to move my computer and 2 testing Flexo he doesnt like the confines of the XPS 7100 so he will be getting the Corsair Chassis... and 3 I want GLASS i might have scratched the plexy the Corsair chassis has on it...and im too anal about that... and 4 your computer looked good in white hence why im blaming you...i know its the meshify but i want airflow lol...but do like the look of the define...</rant>

I have the Meshify S2 in white and love it - 4 x 140mm intake fans, 2x 140mm (100cfm) radiator exhaust fans, 1x 140mm case exhaust fan. Lots of space to work. I did remove the foam filter from the front intake grill and top exhaust grill.

PCIe 2.0 x 8 is 4GB/s * 0.60% = 2.4GB/s. PCIe 3.0 x 4 is 3.9GB/s. The P106-100 is a PCIe 3 card, so four cards on a PCIe 3 motherboard?

With a 2080 Super, GPU-Z indicates a Bus Interface Load of 35% while folding.

For RTX cards, PCI-E 2.0 x16 / 3.0 x8 / 4.0 x4 or higher is recommended to avoid bottlenecks. The FahCore22 workloads use up a lot of bandwidth.

NICs and NVMe SSDs use PCI lanes too so subtract those.

i will keep the filter for intake but yeah exhaust filter gotta go as i dont want it trapping dust leaving...and before splurging on a new $130 Heatsik with white covers will see how my CLC acts on the Meshify but if it acts like it does currently it will be moved to cooling a 2600 vs a 3900x

Looks like some people are contemplating getting some more folding power. As ongoing folding is going to use a lot of electricity, I've updated my table. Assuming the P106-100 as the reference - the higher Relative Efficiency the better:

Looks like some people are contemplating getting some more folding power. As ongoing folding is going to use a lot of electricity, I've updated my table. Assuming the P106-100 as the reference - the higher Relative Efficiency the better:

It looks like the RX 5600 XT is excellent value.

Attached the spreadsheet for your enjoyment.

That's assuming that the card uses full wattage when folding. My Vega 56 uses about 180-200W, my RX580 uses about 125W, and my P106-100 uses about 100W. It's not exactly a direct folding at 100% uses stated TDP relationship, my sample size is small though but I expect most other AMD cards behave like mine which is a much lower than stated TDP for folding. Both are slightly undervolted but both consume more power doing 3D gaming loads than folding.

but this is a worst case scenerio which i like you also have to remember the inefficiencies converting ac to dc so its pretty accurate...
