LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Totally fine.  I don't even mind folks that pay for cloud computing resources.  Just the abuse of setting up multiple accounts to do it free over and over bugs me.

Honestly I really don't mind, as long as we stay away from first place prizes etc. It's not a zero effort endeavor to setup large scale cloud infrastructure to fold on and it's a great way to learn that skill if you work in IT or want to work in IT. Also the huge PPD figures just impress me.

As long as it doesn't have large negative impact on the folding community and events it's all good, otherwise we'll just have to run concurrent side by side events or entry class; BYOD and Cloud.

@Macaw2000 The only thing you missed out on was the heat and fan noise :)

I'm very much looking forward to some peace and quiet in the house once all of my fans spin down.  Not done folding by any means, but a little break will be nice!

Many thousands of posts in such a short time provided a wonderful geeking out experience.

For the younger ones in the crowd, this is something you'll remember decades from now as you reminisce about your "slow" 2020 gig internet, power hungry hardware, and the mere exaflop that we were excited about.

From the top of the list all the way to bottom, the individual effort for helping humanity was the same.  Congrats to all!!

@GOTSpectrumif I may ask, what hardware do you use for folding?

If you ask @Den-Fi he'd say a HD 7950 or so...

Would be cool if there was some way that the stats also logged the actual hardware.

Could have a "Little processor that could" award for the worst hardware with the highest points.

I think my wife is looking forward to not having half built computers scattered around the house, but she knew about my obsession with computers and what I like before she married me, so really its all her fault right 😇

Sadly not possible as we can't see that in the stats data but we could add to the signup sheet a link section to a build log on the forum to show off your folding setups, could use that to find some of the best of the worst.

If this happened I might be in the running for awards in:

Most computers used

Most ghetto pc

Most likely to produce magic blue smoke

Widest range of hardware used

I had a total of 12 cpu's, in 12 computers and 14 gpu's 😝

Not like all would get looked at either, I mean the simplest is to filter for everyone who completed all 14 days and look at the bottom 10 people and try and figure out if one of them was actually a 24/7 folder on a potato :)

Entry classes could be pretty fun... idea:

Cloud and Open - Anything goes. Bring it!

Home Farm - All the hardware you can see and touch

Single Machine - your best effort all within one chassis

Laptop - Don't let it melt into a pile of slag

Well this was fun boys (and girls)... Managed to finish 72nd which I was pleased with for my first comp for team LTT... Reading the forum each day really motivated me to find more hardware to add to my efforts :) Well done to everyone.
