LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Heard they needed some CPU's so I turned fiddled with my 2700X voltages and turned back on 6 cores of it and 3 cores of my i5 4590. Not very efficient but they've both picked up work quickly. Currently have about 500W of heat warming my computer room while it's a little chilly outside at 45F (7C).

This happened to me earlier in the week. I followed the guide that suggested setting up the VM with 1.8GB RAM. I ended up picking up a WU that sucked the machine dry of RAM. I bumped it up to 4 GB and it's been fine since, but could probably get away with 3.5.

Can I change it while it runs or start over ?

No, you don't need to start over. Stop the VM instance, and then edit it and give it more RAM. It will pick right up where it left off.

:D

Lucky, I'm still short 14WU's and over 1,000,000 points. If they fix it, we're all going to have a wild day 😆

Home depot is open if you have to run extension cords to your neighbors houses 🤣

Because I have a special plan with them they can actually stop that plan and charge me a tad over market. Apparently with this lock down current market here is outrageous.

Unsurprising - my power company certainly wouldn't complain, they'll just be happy to get more money from me, but if you're on a special cheaper plan becasue of low use they won't miss the opportunity to boot you...

That is exactly it. I was surprised to get a heads up call.

You can set your client to advanced or beta mode to get WU that aren't (quite) validated yet and have a higher chance of failing, but there is more available work so you will most likely see a more consistent stream of WUs.

You enable it by going into the advanced control application and then to the settings of you client, under advanced you can set an extra option called client-type and value of advanced. If you only want it for a certain slot you can also add it in your slot configuration at the bottom under extra options.

Illogical to replace a 2080 with a 2070S? 2070S basically a rebranded/binned 2080 if I am not mistaken ?

That GPU had one year money back guarantee only. I had it only two weeks before it died. Paid 400€ for it.

Now I might have to stick with this 2070S, new 2080's are too pricy for me.

2080 has much better PPD :(...

I think you might be.  A 2070S is a 2070 with gddr6 memory.  It’s as FAST as a 2080 with gddr5 memory, but that doesn’t make it the same.  A 2080S is a 2080 with ddr6 memory iirc.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Idk how some of my WU got sent to Stuart Hall School, but I feel like driving there and taking them back. 😡

Because that's definitely how points work.
