Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Hey guys, not sure if this has been asked before, but I couldnt find an answer.

I have been getting plenty of WU's lately, but I cannot seem to upload my completed work to the server. Sometimes it works, but currently I have had a completed WU stuck on 'sending' for a couple of hours now...

This is what the log shows:

"

11:08:03:WU00:FS01:Uploading 21.92MiB to 140.163.4.231
11:08:03:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 140.163.4.231:8080
11:08:16:WU01:FS01:0x22:Completed 420000 out of 2000000 steps (21%)
11:08:24:WARNING:WU00:FS01:WorkServer connection failed on port 8080 trying 80
11:08:24:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 140.163.4.231:80
11:08:45:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Exception: Failed to send results to work server: Failed to connect to 140.163.4.231:80: Een verbindingspoging is mislukt omdat de verbonden party niet correct heeft geantwoord na een bepaalde tijd, of de gemaakte verbinding is mislukt omdat de verbonden host niet heeft geantwoord.
"

The part in dutch basically says: "A connection attempt has failed because the connected party has not answered correctly within a certain time, or making a connection has failed because the host did not respond."

Does anyone know what causes this? I have completed and uploaded WU's successfully in the past. Is this because the servers are overloaded?

Thanks!

yes it is

You have or haven't set the advanced flag?

Unless I spam pause and fold I get nothing, NEVER had one fold after another on any slot ever. Also I have no idea what this advanced flag thing is?

In advanced control go to configure and expert tab and add client-type and below it advanced then save -done

You might be interested in reading a bit about it first: https://foldingathome.org/support/faq/installation-guides/configuration-guide/

With that said, I've been running advanced "mode" for some time now. 🙂

It should allow more work through as i was advised to do it and get plenty of work coming in now - i spelled client wrong, did edit but copied before i change it :)

It allows for late stage beta work units. That does include a greater risk for failing WUs and general instability.

I've had no issues though... And plenty of WUs! 😁

Dang, had to delete and recreate a slot again, it got stuck in that void where it gets a download, but no data actually comes. There should be a timeout for that...

Hahahaha, yeah I noticed the spelling mistake and thought about making a joke 😁

Doing this added a cpu slot on one of my computer, now it looks like my computer has two cpu's, is this normal?

Well right after I changed to the advanced mode I got immediately assigned work units for my gpu and cpu. I used to have to continuously pause/resume for half an hour before getting assigned anything. Now I have a 27k base credit GPU WU (I've never got assigned such a big one before) that's gonna take 7 hours.

I wish the guides provided at the start of the event said something about the advanced mode giving out more work units...The only tip I read there was to pause and continue if any slots got stuck, which kind of worked but it's a lot of effort..

Doesn't sound right to me. I've decided not to fold with my CPUs, so right now I only have two machines folding. Each with one GPU and one GPU slot, no CPU slot.
I've added 'client-type': 'advanced' to my GPU slot's extra options, not the global options from the 'expert' tab, I don't know if that makes a difference.

You can read more about local and global options in the link I send. 🙂

I just noticed in the security logs that over the last few days two frequently blocked addresses in the firewall are 83.100.199.98 and 83.100.199.99. According to a whois these are 'RIPE Network Coordination Centre' ..f@h related?

I just looked those up. Are you UK located? Those look like static IPs from Kcom ISP, might that be your ISP? Looks like just an FTP server running behind them, might that be your own IP, not the ones that get blocked?

Guys, please give me some advices. My full spec:

  1.  Mb: Rampage II Extreme x58
  2. CPU: 990x @4.4GHz
  3. Memory: Gskill DDR3 2400
  4. GPU1: Aurous 1080Ti Xtreme
  5. GPU2: 980Ti REF

First, please excuse my old mobo, i have it since 2011, i really love it and i don't think i can upgrade it anytime soon.

Second, i decide to dedicate this system for folding only. I will fold for 24/7 until there is a cure for covid19 then will go for 12 hours a day because i'm using solar energy( no battery to store the exceed electricity). I also don't really game much.

So yesterday i added another graphic card, 1080Ti. Since i didn't want to take every apart so i add 1080Ti to slot 2, 980Ti in slot 1. Then Installed latest driver for 1080Ti. Then run some Heaven Benchmark.

The problem i'm facing atm is that i'm lacking of using mix gpu experience. Any tips for anything to enhance performance for folding/game etc..with out changing mb are appreciated.

Question: why doesn't msi burner dectect 1080Ti? And how to set 1080Ti as the main gpu, legacy bios doesn't seem to have gpu prioritize.

Thank you.

Yes thank you.

Its a 3770k that I had limited the cpu to 4 cores to reduce temps, so another slot was added automatically and now all 8 threads are being used, so I will just add it to the gpu slot and remove from expert.

I don't understand your question/note on the lack of mix GPU experience. In general it is the same as single GPU, don't overclock (or at least only very slightly) as it can lead to dropping of WU because of errors, but I haven't had any problems running them in the highest settings that came default with the card (also running a 1080ti, asus turbo though).
Your 1080ti is being recognized by after burner, but it shows it as a GP102 (code name for the GPU that the 1080ti has). Maybe you haven't updated After Burner so it doesn't know the name yet?

But to me your about 2.6M PPD seem to show that everything is pretty much setup as it should be.

Yes, 140.163.231 and 140.163.4.241 both don't have a collection server at the moment, that's why uploads are failing.

You can see this here: https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats

I have the same problem with 140.163.241 for one of my WUs. But mine only gets the message after about 95% upload.

Well, it's hard to ask the right question since i don't know much abt mix gpu.

For example, i can't use gigabyte rgb fusion or AORUS ENGINE. RGB didn't detect 1080ti. Aorus engine gave me green screen(blue screen).

I already use the latest msi afterbuner, just wondering why it doesn't show 1080ti as 1080ti.

When i run heaven benchmark, only 1080Ti load, 980Ti is idling. Is it normal?

You aren't expecting SLI with two different nvidia model, right? Your MSI after burner is showing your 1080ti tho in your picture. Its selected in picture and then from right pop up you can select your 980ti
