LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

So today apparently I have scored no points despite having folded 24/7 since the competition started.

As far as I can see in the logs I should at least have received:

64,576 at 0547

9,405 at 1002

88,120 at 1835

Seems weird that the whole day is blank for me, I have seen lag between getting points, but not of over 9 hours. I know the servers are under heavy load but all the results seem to have been uploaded correctly and have estimates. Any ideas?

Not evil. You are helping to find a cure.

AAARRGHHH!! This is a little bit infuriating. Folding all day, numerous GPU WU's, many CPU WU's but most of didn't register any points. No upload errors in log...

Does anyone know if I need to set my RX480 to compute in the Adrenaline drivers to get WU's completed faster, or does it even matter?

I tried on two different RX 580 8GB a while back while 0x21 core was main thing. There was no significant improvement.

Not true, those numbers are averages of peoples submissions.

They are now even below average since 0x22 core improved a lot over 0x21.

OC-ed 1080 Ti was doing maximum 1.5M when that spreadsheet was made (and I think avg is 1.3M if I remember correctly). And now there are WUs (0x22 core ofc) which produce up to 1.8M (on same card which is on PL 85%).

Though we are in measurably less than ideal conditions right now with the extreme load on F@H servers.  If it can't get a steady stream of WUs, it can't make mega PPD.

The PPD listed for the RX 5700 XT is super impressive.  I see the data sample size is only one though, so it might not be realistic.  Has anybody here got anything near 1.4M on one?

Funny you should mention that. I'm just finishing benchmarking 2 of those in Windows and I'm seeing:

Averages:

981,334PPD

964,862PPD

On core22 WUs

So yeah, I would take that with a slight grain of salt.

In gaming they tend to fall between a 2060 Super (1.3-1.4MPPD) and a 2070 Super (1.5-1.9MPPD) so they should do better but there are issues with the AMD Drivers and the OpenCl support in GROMACS the software the F@H cores are built under.

Ideal as in able to get WUs. Not so much as far as output.

Still quite impressive to me.  That's only 10% behind my Vega Frontier Edition with the blower screaming, the core voltage trimmed, and the power budget cranked.  What sort of wattage are your 5700 XTs reporting?

162 & 164W average; 198 & 197W Peak.

I'm just running them with the stock setting with the exceptions of increasing the Fan Curves on both as they otherwise run way too hot (85-90C not on the Junction)

They're running:

69 & 63C Average; 73C & 67C Peak on the Average GPU Temperatures

74C & 66C Average and 78C & 74C Peak on the Junction Temperatures

Can you guess which card is the upper of the two 😉

If I were to run them under Windows I'd probably play a bit with under-volting them but as their destined to start being used under Linux I'm just sticking with stock for now for a sanity check.

It looks like you've ended up with a GPU on FS00.  I remember reading that could cause problems somewhere.  I see it's happening to multiple slots in your case.  I had a similar problem a couple days ago and ultimately deleting my GPU slots and recreating them fixed it.
