LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

I feel cheated! Got another GPU to help fold, and it's sitting idle! All it's done is raise the ambient in the chassis so the Titan V runs hotter than usual ( damn open fan designs )!

Get me some darn WUs!

Either you don't have your passkey in, haven't submitted 10WUs yet, or have been pausing / only running on idle / having issues uploading results.

I just got my 11th, so maybe thats it.

I have had a 2700x/2070 system and a 9900k/2080ti running both on full (not idle), passkey in both, for over a day now, and less than 100k.  I am assuming it ramps up or something after a certain point

With a passkey after you successfully submit 10 work units you're eligible to receive the Quick Return Bonus (QRB). This will drastically improve how many points you earn from projects, roughly 10x.

Without the QRB you will only get the base credit for completing a work unit.

It's a hard slog through the first few work units but once you get that QRB the points rain down from the sky.

I’m sure I have a pass key but my points haven’t changed much since passing 10 WU. If anything they have gone down a touch!

One more question, I do this as part-time, so is it count as active for a day? Like in the photo I uploaded on this reply, is it mean I've already been active for about 6 days?

Thanks for the help.

Another one bites the dust...
And the one in the end will fail to upload too once it's done , since it's the same server

This sucks 😭

To meet the requirements of the event here?
Yes. If you submit at least 1 work unit on that day it counts as activity. So the 03.18.20 to 03.23.20 will all count as days of activity, 6 days active total. But the event doesn't start for a few  more days, only activity during the event will be counted.

Make sure you've entered the passkey in to the client. Change Identity (or Configure > Identity in advanced control).

To both, my setup is i have my PC here on my LAN, and my old gaming PC I gave my brother (which he never uses cuz #xboxlifeorsomething which is at my parents house. I have a VPN set up between us via 2 raspberry pi's, but.... I really am not very "good" at these things yet. Good opportunity to learn tho.

So, say I want to monitor both from my macbook air. I am on my local LAN, I can get at my gaming PC here just fine via 192.168 etc, but I am not sure how to hit the VPN tunnel. Do I need to try and figure out the VPN's IP of the that R-Pi? And then somehow translate that across to my parents LAN (192.168....?). Like I said, I am NOT good at these things. But theoretically the hard part is done, I have the VPN set up.

Currently the VPN is bound to the R-Pi's wifi adapter, so when I log into my R-Pi's wifi network the devices on that r-pi LAN think they are at my parents house. Ideally, I would like to not need to log into the wifi though, and I think I *should* be able to point at the VPN and get through it from my local LAN, right?

VPNs and private IPs are the bane of my life.

Best case the two local networks are using different IP Networks. Then it is just a matter of adding static routes on the routers at each end to point the remote network to the IP of the local Rasberry Pi.

Worst case your both using the same network, typically 192.168.1.0/24). What you's have to do is use Network Address Translation (NAT) to translate the remote network's IPs to another local IP on the local Pi.

Just one device isn't too difficult as you could NAT 192.168.1.15 on the remote network to 192.168.1.23 on the local network then static route the local IP to the Pi.

To configure both networks so any device at one side can talk to any device at the other side requires a much more complicated setup.

This likely a good question to post in the Networking form here but a network diagram with IP Addresses will get you more accurate replies.

Hi,

Has probably been answered here somewhere, but cant find it.

For folding Covid-19, is CPU-folding important much?

Is it enough to get a powerful GPU for it? And which one would be best?
