Specs? For Intel, use XTU to undervolt CPU. Use MSI Afterburner to undervolt any dedicated GPU. You can also set power and temperature limit.

Only have had one small CPU task though, so I've dedicated that one to Rosetta@Home now instead where they have over 800.000 jobs queued. Running that one on the LTT team as well.

 

Waiting for new GPU tasks at F@H, but havent gotten any in 2 hours so I guess they are running low on WU's?

Looks like they have 1.05M work units currently being worked on with another 22k in the tank. Lots of work to go around. Also at an estimated 347 PFLOPs. https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/server_status.php

Just started folding! Got a question for you all, when I started folding it is only using my CPU and does not recognize my GPU. Using old hardware FX-8350 and a RX470, OS Ubantu 18.04. I am not an IT expert, just a paramedic who likes to tinker, so I may need heavy guidance. Appreciate any advice.

Yeha I am switching to Rosetta if I cant get CPU work. But lately that works quite good!

Folding with AMD cards in Linux is quite problematic due to poor OpenCL support in the driver. Can't help you but maybe someone running an AMD card on Linux can...

Best bet would be to run a Windows 10 installer, Linux support for OpenCL is kinda patchy unless you're a Linux rockstar.

Im using an x3470 (Yes I know it's old) and a Dell OEM motherboard, but im starting to think its the PSU that is putting out all that heat

Finally i am getting some CPU WU's!

At long last my new 3900x gets to really stretch it's legs doing something useful

The difference between CPU and GPU performance is insane here, the CPU WU takes roughly 24 minutes to complete, the GPU WU is estimated to complete in 3+ hours.... 
Perhaps the amount of work to be done differs, i don't know, but it looks like i made a wise decision upgrading from a 2700x to a 3900x...

I think this may have happened. I have been folding for a few day since I heard that I could.. Since watching the LTT video I switched my team to LTT and nothing has computed ever since. Thoughts? I have 2 machines running on this by the way on two different networks and different locations geographically.. I also took LTT's advice and created a passkey - Could this be the issue preventing any folding from happening?

my poor corsair h115i pro 280 mm close loop cooler is having a hell of a time keeping my 3900 X cool I think I may need to reapply the thermal paste as the close loop cooler only gets up to 85 to 90°F where the CPU is around 190 when I’m running only 16 threads on it if I run any more than that it starts the thermal throttle badly. Has anyone else noticed anything like that

Just started folding.  I have had a few issues with getting work units, but it seems to get one eventually.  I have one completed work unit that just refuses to send.

With the sudden massive jump in users foh servers are overloaded at the moment.

 

Its a bit much to go from 30,000 to hundreds of thousands or more now.
