LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Also dont forget that you can get badges based on the points you've collected for the LTT team!

(I only spent the last half hour awarding points badges to users who made requests over the weekend LOL!)

If you have trouble getting Work Units, restart the application and/or restart the computer to reset the pipe to the Work Unit Server.

Been struggling all morning to get any CPU WUs. Only GPU so far today.

I think I have the same issue since I can only see "GPU Running" and "CPU Ready" :/ Even though I have over 80% CPU usage.

It fails. It feels no distress at the failure, and it reaches out, it reaches out, it reaches out—

Hey my Folding@home is glitching out. It keeps reloading the page and will not fold. Does anybody have a solution? Thx!

Tbh it's better to use the 'advanced control' inferface... You can close the web interface, then right click on the folding icon in the system tray. Select 'advanced control'.

Also, it may not be folding due to the scarcity of WU's right now.

CPUs are a lot worse at folding than GPUs..

Been folding with 4 Servers (each with around 24 Cores) and they generate less points together than my single GTX 1070...

And if he's going to try and LN2 it..... It's gonna be a long ass stream without a lot of exciting things going on. It's notr like he can get an update every 20 minutes with Time Spy runs, it's just watching a bar rise up to completion. Literally watching paint dry levels of excitment.

Don't try telling him that... :D

Unlike for benchmarking high scores like Cinebench and Timespy extreme overclocking for F@H just isn't practical. For example in a 24 hour contest to see who can score the most points any performance gains you get from overclocking will be wasted by the time it takes to set up the pots, get the LN2 going, dial in the overclocking, any lost work units from a crash due to unstable OC...

Realistically all you could do with a LN2 overclocked folding@home system is boast about your Estimated PPD: score and that's about it. Maybe submit a few work units but after that you'll be out of LN2 and disassembling the pots while your production drops back down to 0.
Compared to just a regular system where you can just set and forget and get consistent results 24/7. Even if you can't get as high estimated PPD you're still going to end up far ahead. Turtle and hare race.

But like GN said in his reply on twitter, it's not to be practical. If it gets some extra attention to Folding@home then that's great!
I just hope people don't watch it and think that they should overclock their system to the max to get the best result and then end up failing a bunch of work units 🤦‍♂️

Here's the Gamers Nexus Folding Team: https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=234771

There's no way the Gamers Nexus team could compete with the LTT team at this point. But a 1v1 battle of Steve from GN versus @jakkuh_t (6 editors 1 PC) could be a more fair fight.

Yea, definitely not as productive as a GPU.  When cooking, my 3950x shows an average 500,000ppd, and the 2080ti is anywhere from 2,500,00-3,000,000ppd

But, until they can keep the GPUs churning, ill let the 3950 eat, this morning its the only thing thats got work

I'm bored, (besides work) and I got another 9700k box sitting around. Debating on picking up best bang for buck GPU's and running that too. I'm already heating my house though, and I feel my wife might murder me with another one.

Those GPUs are expensive heaters :D But they're getting hot for a good cause 👍

I was wondering if I was just getting small CPU WUs or that was always the case.  Now with an N of 3, it seems the GPU alone is hovering around 2.5-3,000,000 on its own and when the CPU gets something it really barely changes or gets a job worth like 8000.

Regardless, very happy they did this video, I literally had never heard of folding for any of these causes and its nice the hardware can do something useful between gaming sessions.
