Removing the GPU with a Noctua NH-D15 gives me anxiety

MS-DOS

I have to use a screwdrive to push the plastic lever thing to take it out because I can't reach it with my finger. MOBO is Aorus Pro x570 btw.

Im always worried im going to damage the PBC.

Trust it's all good, motherboards aren't as fragile as they are made out to be. I have done the same thing for the past 2 years in my main rig, it has never been an issue.

I've done it for years, usually the are easy enough you don't have to worry about stabling and breaking a trace on the board.

Sure you can’t reach it with your finger from the topside from GPU? Nothing wrong using screwdriver but end of the day mobo’s canary fragile. Wouldn’t wanna fuck some traces up with the screwdriver if you slip of the plastic latch

I have the same problem.

For some unknown reason my EVGA 2080 ti XC will not release without constant pressure on the lever and I can't do that lifting the card. My EVGA FTW3 Ultra is easier to remove from the same motherboard and it is larger.

To remove the card I have to ly the computer on its side as well.

I destroyed 2 motherboards with screwdrives so I am paranoid.  Both were ASUS P5-Ds that I bought in 2008. I bought four P5-Ds and only one survived without damage. It is the reason I switched to Noctua in the first place.

if you are truly worried about it, then go to your local hardware store like lowes, home depot, a little mom and pop hardware store or to a craft store and get a wood dowel rod about a 1/4'' in width. that will be enough to put force on the clip without breaking the wood or clip and being made of wood no worry about shorting out the components. also go to a store that sells computer components and buy a can or two of air duster to clean the system out.

Once i push the plastic lever with the screwdriver I can take it out, but at first I didnt realize I had to angle it up to make it paralell with the floor as it was a bit curved. Hopefully I didnt bust the PCI slot because im having problems with the GPU but I think the GPU is old and about to die.

well yes and no. you can use a vacuum to clean it out no problem as that is what I do for most of it but that will not get everything especially the small spaces like between the storage device and the case (depending on your case of course). and you don't have to clean it at all if you don't want to but it is a great idea to do it any time you do have your case open as you do anyway so why not do it.

But a spray thing just pushes dust around, it doesn't vacuum it no?

Wouldn't it be better to invest in some sort of vacuum cleaner with various types of endings, like a small tube ending or something

I dont want to be breathing the dust that is pushed around

well I just read your other post and I don't think that is an issue anymore seeing as how its not dead. but I suggest you try it first and then see how much dust and dirt is left over. and as for breathing it in, they do make paper mask you can wear if it make you uncomfortable doing it, but then again most people don't let the inside of their cases get dirty enough they need a vacuum.

Ok i'll buy a can and see how it works along with the new GPU its 5€ anyway

So you are saying I aim this inside the PCI sockets and push air inside? it cant damage anything right? like bending a pin or something

its just a good idea that you do as the can is compressed air which can have a tiny nozzle attached to it which allows the can to get into places the vacuum can not reach. doing a vacuum job first to get anything big out first but most of the dust is statically charged and may not come off so easily.

if you follow the instructions on the can then no, no damage will be done to your computer as its just compressed air. but watch this video if it doesn't convince you.
