Will RTX 20 series LATER support 4k@120?

Recommended Posts

If I buy a graphics card now (2070 super for example), will it later some day be firmware updated to be able to play 4k@120 on LG C9?

This article SEEMS to say so https://optocrypto.com/nvidia-enhanced-its-rtx-20-with-hdmi-2-1-vrr-support-for-lg-oled-2019-listing/

However perhaps they are just saying that later there will be a 20-based graphics card that will support it (like 2090 or whatever), I can't understand if they are talking about driver update, or future cards, or something else.

That would be unlikely.

It says they're getting support for the VRR protocol from the HDMI 2.1 standard. That doesn't have anything to do with increasing the bandwidth. And it's unlikely the signaling rate of the HDMI controller in the GPU could be tripled with a firmware update.

Ah thanks for clarifying, I get it now. I guess I'll wait until 3080 then.

They need to put display port on tv’s. Even if it’s only one port, show the pc people some love. I don’t mind using the hdmi on my 4k tv but I’m no where near 120 fps

this is a yes and no because according to evga (just a random pick) the EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER GAMING

already supports Max Monitors Supported: 4 Max Digital: 7680x4320 so you will just need a TV/monitor that can handle 4k

My LG B9 Does 120hz at 1440p and that is doable now.

My 2080 tis don't come close to 120hz 4k so I can wait for next gen.
