Can't use Dedicated GPU

veniix

I've had this problem for several days now.

I can't use my dedicated Gpu at all, in device manager it shows error code 43.

Here's what I've done so far:

  • Uninstalled the drivers with and without DDU and reinstalling it.
  • Looking around the BIOS, there's no option I can change related to GPU
  • Uninstalled numerous windows updates
  • Doing a memory test, I've tried memtest and the one built into windows (apparently it puts high load into the CPU and my laptop crashes, I've done the quick test and no problems have shown up)
  • Taking out the CMOS battery and putting it back in
  • Hard reset
  • Installing Latest, Old, Manufacturer drivers.

The laptop works fine in safe mode.

When I use the integrated gpu, I can game for around 5 seconds before my laptop crashes due to overheating

SPECS:

- Core i5 3230M

- GeForce 710M

- 6GB DDR3

I'm assuming this is a pretty old laptop since it has a third generation Intel CPU, right? If that's the case, it's possible the GPU has just given up. I don't really know what in specific would have caused this other than it just being old or faulty.

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

If your laptop is crashing under load i think it's done for. Does it crash under any other type of load, such as Prime95 or IntelBurnTest?

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Well if it's a CPU intensive test, it'll crash.

I've played 2 hours of CSGO and then let it install Quake from steam, then I start getting blue screens with different stop codes every time it would BSOD. I think I've fixed the BSOD problem, I've not gotten a single one in past 2 days.

Sounds like your laptop may just be on its way out. Crashing under synthetics, BSOD's... All i can recommend is a windows reinstall.

I've done a clean install.

Right now I disabled my Hd 4000 and the error code 43 is gone and when re-enabled, it bsod's.

I get artifacting when I game, and crashing in 2 mins.

That basically confirms that the 710m is dead.
