Can you put this ram in other computers?

Recommended Posts

Registered memory doesnt mean it can only be used on that Vendor, but it has an extra buffer chip which means it can only be used on a board that has ECC RDIMM support.

Things you need to be careful about when looking at server memory:

- Is it Registered (RDIMM), does your board support RDIMM

- Is it ECC, does your board support ECC

- What is the Ranking of the memory e.g 1R, 2R, 4R and does your motherboard support that ranking

Most server & workstation motherboards support ECC, very few consumer motherboards do.

Most high end servers support RDIMM (Reg), workstation & consumer motherboards basically dont.

Most servers support up to 2R or 4R memory, generally consumer boards support 1R or 2R...but you typically cant mix them otherwise multi channel won't work.

Always consult the manual for the board to see what it supports.
