Should I put this GTX 1070 in my Build?

Hey everyone, 

 

Newbie here. I'm going to start my first build soon. Just purchased a Ryzen 9 3900x for my CPU, which pretty much blew most of my budget, but, I was recently given a GTX 1070 for pretty cheap. I know bottlenecking is going to happen, but, would it be so severe that no one with a brain or any kind of experience would dare use it in this build? 

 

My build is not necessarily for gaming. More for productivity. I'll be modeling and sculpting in 3D (blender, ZBrush) and doing some game development (unity) and plenty of drawing (photoshop). I plan to have a good amount of memory and storage, and a nice power supply that should be pretty future-proof.

 

Main question: can I get away with this GPU without loosing performance where I'd need it?

All advice is helpful. I'm learning as I go, but would love to be as educated as I can going forward. Saving money is awesome, learning something new is priceless.

There is clearly a lot of misunderstanding about what bottle necking is...

 

You can put a GTX 650 in there and it won't slow anything down except games, or things that actually need the GPU. So a 1070 won't "make anything worse", and you will be getting the max FPS a 1070 will ever produce in any CPU. So is there "room left on the table", yes, you could get more FPS with a better GPU. But is that a bad thing... no.

I figured I was probably misinformed about something somewhere in the "bottlenecking-world", but I appreciate your advice. You actually cleared the subject up a bit for me. Thanks for your advice.

bottleneck in this system????hm yeah under precise circumstances yeah but for your kinda of use.....not really you see you plan to do photoshop so you need the ram and the cpu gpu will help but when things go on a larger scale than some photo cropping modelling and sculpting yiaks but hey you got hte horsepower ofr it (cpu)in other word you should be fine and from productivity and if you wish to play a game your only concern should be the rams like 2400 mh with xmp and if they cn be oc in a nice 3200 stable that would be my concern

also rember if you are going to do dyal channel make SURE their have identical values or are +- 3 other whise you can use the dual channel and this is an actuall conser AND bottleneck FOR YOUR type of use
