What do you think about Elon Musk free internet, is it really going to work every where ? can it be blocked in some countries that want to get high $$$ from customers ? what will be the equipment to get up and down signal ?

Free internet doesn't mean fast, and he will try profit from it no matter what so be prepared to have all public data necessary for joining to be sold.

It could be free as in  1 mbps up/down but you pay maybe 50-100$ for the modem and antenna (you need an antenna to point to the satellites and maybe to automatically align itself with particular satellite... as one moves away from you, your antenna may have to reposition itself on a satellite that's coming into view.

 

I guess a part of that money could subsidize the launch of further satellites in the constellation.

 

If you want something higher like let's say 10 mbps, you may have to pay some monthly fee besides the price of the equipment.

 

The problem is importing the equipment in your country (it may not be allowed entry at customs).

Also, another problem is they may need to make agreements with various countries in order to have installations to upload data to the satellites, otherwise everything would be very slow.

Basically imagine you're in Brazil and you want to access a website located in Brazil... you send a packet of data to the satellite above your head and the data then jumps from satellite to satellite in the constellation until it's above US where it's beamed down to a datacenter. The datacenter then actually sends  the packet of data from US to Brazil to fiber cable to the server of the website in Brazil, and that website sends reply back to US, where the datacenter beams up the reply to the network of satellites and then again it hops from satellite to satellite to you and then down back to your antenna. 

 

Elon Musk needs datacenters or nodes on the land in various countries to reduce the number of hops between satellites and to bring down your packet of data as close as possible to you. For ex. You may be 200-300 miles from their datacenter in Brazil but there's a mountain between, so your request goes up the satellite, jumps to another a few hundred miles away in space, then goes down to the datacenter in brazil, the server in the datacenter sends the packet to the website in Brazil, gets the reply, uploads it to the satellite above which passes it to satellite above you and it comes back to you.
