HELP PC not booting up after 2 different CMOS clears!

Hello everyone, today, i am faced in front of a very difficult problem.

 

EDIT 1 PC SPECS : 

 

 

Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z-390A

Processor : Intel I5 9600K @3.70GHz 

RAM: HyperX 2x 8 gigs DDR4 @3200 MHZ

Current GPU : MSI GTX 970 OC 

Bootdrive : Kingston SSD 250 gigs 

Running games on similar spec'd SSD. 

 

You see, i've received a new case recently and all i've done today is to transfer all of my current components to the new case.

But, with a twist, i've also done a CMOS battery clear to reset my BIOS due to not being able to ever access it for some reason 

The behavior was as follows : 

 

- Pressing power button turns on the PC as usual, but no peripherals or monitor would respond until windows boots up.

- Trying to access the bios by going through windows troubleshooting stays in a blackscreen until the PC is resetted only to behavior the same way as described above.

- Trying to use a bootable USB drive does the same behavior.

 

This behavior was fixed after a CMOS battery clear. 

Do know, however, that i changed TWO settings in the bios before booting : 

 

I have changed my HyperX DDR4 memory's clock to it's advertised 3200MHz 

I have changed my bios's delay to 5 seconds.

 

HOWEVER after a couple of minutes running google chrome and watching a random video, my PC completly froze and not responded until a reset.

After this random freeze happened, the behavior mentionned above re-surfaced.

i have decided to ignore this behavior until i have noticed multiple freezes AND game crashes while playing World Of Warships with my friend and decided to REDO a CMOS battery clear.

And this is where i am stuck right now, my PC would never boot up after this clear and here's the current behavior :

 

Pressing the power button turns on the PC, all fans spinning, all hard drives spinning, GPU fans spinning, motherboard flashes OK. 

HOWEVER i do not have any peripherals NOR monitor turning on. 

Having a windows bootable drive does not wake up the system.

Trying to reset the PC with a short circuit to the CLRTC jumpers DOES make the motherboard restart multiples times but always ending up in the same result.

 

So right now i am at an impasse. Could anyone competent please help me and guide me through making this computer start up again? I am extremely desperate.

Try this:

 

turn the psu switch off.

remove the cmos battery

press the power button a few times then hold it in then press it a few times more (to bleed the motherboard power)

remove 1 stick of ram

insert the cmos battery

turn the psu on

press the power button ONCE and wait.

 

If it boots to windows, restart the pc then shut it down. Then insert the stick of ram and turn it back it on.

Alright, i have done your possible solution, however, to no avail.

 

My computer turns on, restarts immediatly, turns on ... couple seconds pass.. another restart and then nothing appears on screen and no peripherals turned on. The stick of ram is still outside of the motherboard.

move the stick of memory currently installed into the slot the other stick was and see if that will boot, failing that, it sounds like something is wired up incorrectly.

Done and failed, however i would say an incorrect wire would be impossible because i successfully booted up many times before this issue occured at all. I was able to watch videos and play games flawlessly until crashes occured.

I do have a weird question though, when the CMOS battery is seated, is it possible that it can get pushed down a teeny bit or not at all? Because mine does, i've tried doing that to make sure it was properly seated.

if you're not sure try and take a photo, for the cmos battery to be seated correctly it just has to be under the metal locking tab so its sitting flat.

I can confirm the CMOS battery is well under the two locking pins so it should be fine.

I suppose you don't have any other solutions for me?

OH MY GOD i am getting a post however i cannot access bios due to my keyboard not being detected, how can i make it work? I only have USB keyboards sadly..

OKAY I got a bios now, i changed my keyboard and mouse ports to some USB 3.1 i believe? Ports and it's working.

BIOS version : 0903

Detected list : 

CPU

1 memory stick @2133 MHZ ( wrong setting because mine can go up to 3200 )

all 5 hard drives AND my bootable windows USB drive

all fans detected

 

What shall i do and/or set now? Can we conclude it is possibly a GPU issue?

Dont touch any memory settings, you need to find the legacy usb support settings and make sure they are enabled. 

 

I would now update the bios to the latest version.

Memory settings untouched, USB legacy support was already (?!?!) enabled 

Could you guide me through the process? I would really really not like to screw this up please!

 

EDIT 1 : Possible interesting detail is that my bios is set at 01/01/2017

In the bios make sure you have a ASUS Prime Z-390A

boot into windows, download this file:

open the zip put the cap file in a USB and on C drive, follow the prompts in the bios under the EZ flash setting

Process has been completed successfully, bios updated from 0903 to 1401.

Is there anything else i should do in the bios?

not now, boot into windows then shut down, install the graphics card and see if it boots.

Okay, i've added back the second stick of ram from earlier and added in my graphics card. 

My PC finally boots up as normal and detected both.

I am on windows without any issues for now.

Though the question still bugs my mind

Is it still going to be freezing and crashing my games from earlier?

At least for now it's booting normally..

the freezing and crashing was because you set your ram settings incorrectly.

 

Go into the bios and save your current settings to profile 1 so you can restore them if anything breaks next time.

 

What cpu cooler are you using?

What PSU do you have?

I hope that it is seriously but it gave me so much trouble..

I will do that right now.

My CPU cooler is a noctua NHD15-S

My powersupply is a flowerpower 850 W modular.

Okay here is something interesting. 

I ve shut down the system and did the following without unplugging the powersupply or turning it off : 

- Removing usb containing the BIOS update

- Moving keyboard and mouse usb's to rear 2.0 ports 

-Added Arctis 7 usb into 3.1 usb port 

-Added HTC vive usb into 3.0 usb port 

-Added HTC vive HDMI into HDMI port of the graphics card 

 

And now when i boot up the pc

The PC skips the bios does not show ASUS splash at all and no peripherals power on until windows is fully booted up just like what was described earlier before this whole situation happened.. 

Whats going on?! 

 

EDIT 1 : When i power up to windows and press the front reset button, my peripherals light up again but not my monitor and spamming delete only blocks the PC to this state.

Restarting the PC and letting it boot makes keyboard and mouse light up.. then down after a bit and again after a bit lights on and monitor follows with windows.

control panel > power options> change what these power buttons do > change settings that are currently unavailable > untick turn on fast startup
