VA 144 Hz to IPS 144 Hz worth?

Hello guys,

 

Topic# 1:

I was wondering if it's worth to change my HKC 24" 1080p VA panel+144hz to Asus 24" 1080p IPS panel+144hz? Since nowadays IPS+144hz is finally combine, and I want brilliant/vibrant colors more, not really a competitive gamer just sometimes but I am most in single player games.

 

Topic# 2:

I really want a 1440p IPS+144hz but I don't have a budget atm 'coz I want to ups my GPU too (currently RTX 2060) - now I know most of you guys will say that my GPU is alright for 1440p but I want to play High-Ultra settings and I don't want to tweak it medium or I might get limitations for my FPS. Since AAA games are getting demanding.

Ultra settings on 1440p 144hz? thats a tall task even for the 2080ti. You don't need to upgrade, but an ips 1440p 144hz monitor is nice to have

Thanks for the reply, but I don't need the 144 hz in a single-player game right? Just need 60hz, I'm talking about games like AC's, Far cry, Metro Exodus.

 

I just need the 144hz for browsing and some time playing CS go.

Alright, I mean Not the absolute greatest way to spend money, but * moans in 4k 160hz * It isn't a bad way to spend money either  CS:GO is old-ish, and I'm pretty sure it'll be easy to crank everything to max and have good frames

You're fine I run 1440p and 144hz completely fine I get on those fps about 100+ on 1070 ti OC'd all at max. On AC Odyssey and metro exodus. No RTX on my end though. Haha.

Make sure to keep in mind that IPS panels tend to have lower pixel response times than VA or TN panels. So if you are going to make the switch, then I'd suggest making sure that the IPS panel you're switching to has the same or better response times as the monitor your moving away from, otherwise you may not be happy with the switch.

Yes I am fully aware of that, afaik it was 5ms or 4ms. It's fine with me. It's ASUS after all and a new model. It's just the stand that's not good - pretty basic I mean but for 200$ - 1080p IPS+144hz, I think it's good right?

If I have correctly guessed your existing monitor model number, and the ASUS model you want to move to, you'd be going from a 4ms GTG response to a 1ms GTG response. So you should be pretty happy with the new monitor.

In my humble opinion ips is overrated, at least for gaming, usually they suffer from white halos and ghosting. Myself after a lot of research got a 1440p 144Hz 1ms VA panel from MSI for 300€ and I am very satisfied. I am never returning to 1080p. Btw you can always play on a 60Hz panel at 144fps, only shows 60 frames but game will be smooth. But if I have to chose I rather play at 60fps on a 144Hz.

I used to be all for IPS until I tried VA. The blacks and contrast on VA are just so much better than any gaming IPS you will find. Also most gaming IPS panels have terrible bleed and color shift issues

Not worth the side grade.

 

An older, cheaper VA is likely to be substantially slower in pixel response compared to a newer IPS, however its still very much a side grade that isnt worth wasting the money especially if ur trying to save for a good 1440p display ($400-$800), and ur likely going to find yourself wanting to upgrade your GPU as well to better cope with it.

 

Another thing u should very much take note of.

IGNORE manufacturer specs, in regards to response time specifically. They are technically and legally 'true' but are incredibly misleading to the point of immorality.

If you truly care enough about the quality of the monitor and getting the most for your money u should only consider Displays that have been reviewed and tested thoroughly. a few sites to check are:

no, youre not getting 100+ average fps in 1440p on 1070ti in ac odyssey and metro exodus. not even 2080ti does that in ac and barely in metro...

Actually am on AC cause there graphics never really change to much Metro around 80+. Like I just finished shadow of the tomb raider with over 100+ with max settings. 2080 ti might as well be a 1080 ti with a baby OC anyways. Either that or you're not overclocking. I get 2100 or core and 4250 on memory. Around cooler temps and never drop below at least 70-ish on harder demanding. Besides you know shadows are the most taxing, right? Drop that to around high instead of ultra and ta-da much higher frames. However in high populated areas in games I do take a dip around 70-80. I'm just saying those two games in particular. The newest games I have.

 

So OP you're fine with whatever you choose just make sure the VA panel as decent brightness like above 200nit at least.

im sure your 1070ti overclock gained you nearly 30% performance and i sure believe you over actual reviewers.

 

now to the topic about VA vs IPS. personally i have bad experience with VA blur and would prefer IPS

Right, certain games only I meant. I wouldn't lie about it. Metro as been hard to run at max cause it's all shadows in the metro. Haha. I appreciate you believing me though. I have no reason to lie nor would I about this stuff. The forum is for helping others out with issues or questions. Also sometimes making friends.

 

Yeah VA does have some blur like say your trying of read something while moving in game or dragging windows around you will notice it.

 

For IPS I recommend (based on some reviews) the Acer Nitro VG271U

With that CPU? Send a screenshot how you get 100+ (towns e.g.) on 1070 ti at 1440p with MAX settings please  Otherwise stop posting BS and confusing people.
