Question 1:

Why in games when I put the graphics to low (For example in Control) the GPU usage starts bouncing from 0% to100% then to 0% again then to 100% as so on... Why does this happen?
 

Question 2:

Why does this happen in GTA V? In GTA V I noticed bouncing GPU usage and a lot of Micro stutters while driving, when flying or walking around the same area there are no FPS drops... also I noticed freezes in missions... I also noticed this in tomb raider 2013, When I get into a new location or get into a start of a cut scene FPS drops happen...

 

How FPS drops go in GTA V: I got vysnc on the framerate is locked to 75, It be stable at 75 FPS but when I drive it gets from 75 to 51 to 62 to 75 and so on... and in missions there are freezes

How FPS drops go in Tomb Raider: I got vysnc on in that game too so the framerate is locked to 75 FPS, but at the starting of cutscenes or when I get to a new location the FPS goes all the way down to 45...

I did not notice these FPS drops in heavier games like Control though...

So why are these FPS drops happening?

 

My PC specs:

-i5 4590

-8 GB RAM Dual channel 1600 MHz

-XFX Radeon RX 570

-1 TB WD Blue HDD 90 MB/s Read and write

2. Not sure why but that HDD's speed is bad even by 7200RPM standards, unless it's actually a 5400RPM. GTA 5 usually responds with missing textures and collision models though, not stutters

Mess up collision model? That's how the game engine works, though it may not be intentional

Because it's just not the same game? That 30s does match with what a slow drive could do though, also Control's game scenes are more closed off so there's less data to load.

Is your HDD really badly fragmented?

I didn't do a defragment for my HDD since I bought it (about 5 years ago), Only C folder which has the system is fragmented very well because I completely format that partition when re-installing windows

I mean, to prove my theory you could move the game install to an SSD and see whether that solves the problem, but that's also not really realistic if you dont have the capacity for that.

 

What about CPU usage in GTA 5? It is known for being rather CPU demanding back when quad cores are what most people get. I dont think it's memory heavy though, since this old game was released before DDR4 even became common
