Replacement monitor PSU, Help!

Vamo_Elysian

Hi everyone,

I recently moved house, and during the move, the power adaptor for the above titled monitor was damaged, to the point that if the cable is nudged even a millimetre, the monitor will lose power and I have to wiggle it around to try and get it to come back on.

I've scoured the internet trying to find a replacement, and thought I had found one on Amazon, which i ordered, only to discover that the connection was just a bit too small compared to the original and doesn't fit. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?

I have contacted AOC the manufacturer of the monitor, only yo be told that they cannot help me as my monitor is out of warranty. They would not even provide me with exact specifications or anything to aid me in finding a replacement PSU.

I have attached a photo of with the details of the original power supply, I would greatly appreciate any help in sourcing a compatible replacement! From a UK supplier if possible

Thank you in advance

Your adapter is rated for 19v and 3.42A .. so that's 19v x 3.42 = 65 watts.

The connector is standard barrel jack, and there's two dimensions you need to measure:

1. ID - inner diameter : distance between those two contacts within the connector ... usually it's 2.1mm or 2.5mm

2. OD - outer diameter : the diameter of the barrel jack ... usually it's 5mm or 5.5 mm

3. length - the length of metal round bit, from the base plastic to the tip

You want to buy an adapter rated for 65w or more, ideally with the voltage rating of 19v but your monitor will probably work just fine with anything between 18v and 20v , the monitor inside has another power supply which converts this voltage to other voltages, so it's not that picky about the exact voltage.

You want to pick an adapter with the proper barrel jack, so get a ruler and measure the inner and outer diameter.

Here's a distributor of electronic components which has lots of such AC adapters, I've pre-filtered for you the list to show only adapters with those very common barrel jack sizes. If you measure some other size, reset the filters and then pick the right dimensions :

Here's all 18v..20v 65w or bigger (68 results) :  https://www.digikey.com/short/zqm8jt

Here's same list filtered for most common barrel jack sizes (down to 44 results) : https://www.digikey.com/short/zqm8jm

(also note that you want only models with positive in center, negative on the outside, there's some models in the lists above that have negative in center, avoid those)

Hi, many thanks for your fast reply!

I've taken some measurements as per your instructions, and have come up with what i think is an outer-diameter of 5mm, and an Inner Diameter of 2.5mm. I'm posting a picture below just to get a second opinion if possible.

Thanks again

It's more likely to be 2.5mm / 5.5 mm

Place the ruler directly in the center of the circle and measure there. Ideally you'd use calipers but the ruler should be sufficient.

This would probably be suitable if the dimensions are correct: https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/delta-electronics/ADP-65JH-HBAN/1145-1140-ND/5250424

Hi, thanks for your reply!

Had a look at what you linked, and noticed that the input seems to be the "clover" style, where as the one I have is the "Kettle lead", so I had a look at the refined results you gave me and found this alternative, would this work do you think? To save on buying an additional power cord (as the power cord i have is fine).

Thanks again

The input connector style doesn't matter. The adapter produces 65w which means the input current is less than 1A , which means even a very thin power cable with the "mickey mouse" connector is suitable.

The third pin in the input connector is earthing, grounding... it's optional... adapter can have 2 pins or 3 pins, won't make any difference.

I had a second look at the first picture and noticed the product code ADS-65LSI-19-1 19065G ... if you google this you'll fid plenty of adapters with this code, and they say 2.5mm / 5,5mm here's an example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32378950899.html

You also mentioned something about UK so here's some decent stores that would ship from UK or Europe so cheaper and less customs (no idea with the Brexit if you now pay taxes for electronics)

Go on Amazon, get a universal 65W AC adapter that comes with multiple tips and call it a day.

Hey,

Funny you should mention that! I actually ordered one with multiple tips a little after reading everything mariushm had to say about the specifications and such. It arrived yesterday and my monitor is now working again, very happy!

Thank you both for your help and advice, I'm glad to have been able to get it working again for £20 rather than buy a whole new monitor!
