What hardware should I pair with my Ryzen 3950x and RTX 2080ti??

So I am upgrading and have decided on the Ryzen 9 3950x 16 core processor and a Rtx 2080ti.

 

I know quite a bit about computers but I have had never had one so powerful (16 core processor and 2080ti). That said I’m not sure what the best other hardware is to pair with these new high spec parts. 
 

I will be using this computer with one ASUS 27” 1440p 144hz ips monitor for my gaming, and also a Samsung 4K Quantum dot 28” monitor for my media e.g. YouTube, Netflix and general browsing.

 

The games I play include DayZ Standalone, Arma 3, Metro Exodus, Escape from Tarkov and other shooter based games with amazing graphics.

 

In terms of budget it looks like it’s going to end up at around £3200 or $4300 obviously I would like to keep the price down where possible but I don’t want to sacrifice any performance. Also seeing as it’s so expensive I kinda need this pc to last at least 2-3 years before my next upgrade.

 

I do care about how it looks to a point e.g. RGB (preferably Corsair parts with iCUE compatibility) and the looks of the case.

 

For storage I know I need 1TB Nvme Ssd for Windows/games and atleast 1TB HDD.
 

As I am from the UK I have been using CyberPowerSystem and PC Specialist to build this computer and will buy it from one or the other.

 

If anyone has any advice on good hardware that you think would fit my new pc I would appreciate it.

3950x is overkill for 1440p

That's an absolute waste. That's a workstation proc, not a gaming proc. I have a 3800x and 2080S and destroy 3440x1440. Get a 3700x. You literally won't use the processor to it's full extent. Not even close.

Do you make videos (for money?) and HAVE PROGRAMS THAT USE 16Cores?
Otherwise its a waste to even buy the 3900x

As everybody above has correctly pointed out: 3950x is a huge waste of money if you are just gaming on that machine - even for some light video editing or photoshop.

 

New hardware is rumored to release Q3-Q4 of 2020 and you might want to hold off buying at least the 2080 Ti for now - do you still have the PC you mentioned in a thread last september?

I honestly can't see why he wants to upgrade for Gaming purposes.

It’s not that I’m having a problem with gaming because I’m not, I tend to get around 80-100fps on max settings. Guess I just like having the best parts . These rumored parts for 2020 are they new Nvidia GPUs? The research I’ve done is telling me that the Ryzen 7/9 are the best cpu atm? So should I just wait to see about GPUs because surely when they release them they will be super expensive if they top a 2080ti?

Best consumer CPU doesn't mean best for gaming. Having too many cores will hurt performance in anything that doesn't use them. Very few games use 8 cores, and I don't think any will use more.

 

As for the new GPUs, I doubt they'll be more expensive than a 2080 Ti. If nothing else, it should slash the price of a 2080 Ti.

 

On a side note, build it yourself if you want quality parts. Don't waste money on a system builder.

Ok so after reading all these messages (very helpful btw thanks everyone who responded). What is the perfect pc for 1440p gaming at 144hz for this year. Bearing in mind if a new gpu comes out later this year I can upgrade to it then.

I personally doubt the '3080 Ti' will be more expensive than the 2080 Ti tbh. New CPUs from AMD will come at the end of this year, new Intel CPUs are coming earlier (10900K). 

The best parts for what? There is no such thing as 'The best GPU' or 'The best CPU' - they all serve a certain purpose. If you want the most FPS and the best gaming CPU - that would be the 8-core 9900KS right now and will most likely be the 10-core 10900K in a couple of weeks/months. And both are more than capable of simultaneous streaming or video editing for example. 

The higher the resolution you are gaming at the more the GPU becomes the deciding factor.

As of today:

Intel i9 9900KS, 16GB ram, Titan RTX (yes, it's an absolute waste of money to buy the Titan instead of a 2080 Ti, but technically it's the better performer - seriously, don't buy a Titan RTX!)

 

Which will change within the coming weeks/months when the 10900K is released and then again when the new Nvidia GPUs come out. Since you have a perfectly capable gaming machine right now, I just think it's a total waste to spend close to 2k on these parts now and then upgrade later for the same amount of money again. If your current machine was not capable or you didn't have a PC at all, I would still encourage you to wait with the build, but I'd understand if you just went ahead. 

But it's your money, do with it what you want and what makes you happy

Your current system is fine, but there are some improvements you could do without spending money. Have you overclocked your 9700K? Have you confirmed that your RAM is actually running at 3000MHz? It's very common for system builders to lazily not even bother with that.

 

You should also use MSI Afterburner to check what the bottleneck is in each game you're playing. That will help you tweak the performance. Often the higher up settings can be a huge performance drain, but don't look any better, just different. Sometimes they can look worse.

 

I have a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor, and unless it's an older game, it's usually best to disable all anti aliasing, for example. With that pixel density, it's hard to notice a difference, and it just drains resources.
