PCI-E 3.0 X8 Problem

Sla1neVact

2 days before, i got a Z170 motherboard <ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII RANGER>

And now my GPU GTX 1070 is running at PCI-E 3.0 X8 speed on this board. I dont know why.1842240852_QQ20200222053542.png.dc2b237107f494237fb34f8bac753736.png

I tried to run Render Test, but it still running at PCI-E 3.0 X8. And i have checked bios settings, only can change pcie gen1/2/3.

This matherboard only have one M.2 slot, and i put a WD SN500 NVME drive in it. idk if it will change the PCI-E Slot Speed to X8.

Hope somebody can help me. Sorry for my poor english,

Take the card out, put it back in. PCIe x16 is a long slot so sometimes it just doesnt entrely go in.

Either that or M.2 shares the PCI-E resources.

check the box of the mobo, it usually says if an M.2 shares the PCI-E resource or no

To be honest, you shouldn't sweat it if you can't get it running at x16. A 1070 won't really take a performance hit from half bandwidth.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I have read the MB manual , it only says when u use M.2, one SATA connector will be invalid.

It is probably related to enabling Hyper M.2 in bios.

I have checked bios settings, the option called “hyper kit” is already turned off.

I tried to take card out and put in. And when i going to the system, GPU-Z still show PCI-E 3.0 X8. Can this problem caused by PCIE SLOT broken?

Remove everything from the other PCIe slots and turn off the iGPU and start from there.

If you've plugged ANYTHING into another PCIe slot that shares the GPU PCIe slot it will drop to 8x. If you have nothing in the other PCIe slots, then it might be the NVme slots.

The two grey PCIe x16 slots share bandwidth (both go to x8) if both are in use.

Try the other grey slot, what does it say in GPU-Z?
