Massive FPS drops

Hello guys so recently when playing games like fortnite I have been noticing massive fps drops from a capped 240 to around 5 in which the game freezes for a moment. My cpu is the 8700k but the whole rig is about 4 years old with a new 2080ti. Any suggestions for troubleshooting? I have 32gb ram and my temps have been consistent and normal.

What storage did you use?

Once I had a laptop, using it for years and realized that all the fps drops were not from my CPU or GPU, but from HDD.

I knew it because the problem was gone after I upgrade to SSD.

That's my 2 years wasted on HDD...

 

Search for any disk usage in task manager.

If there is none .. you should consider reinstall the game itself, maybe something corrupt
